Amit Mishra fined for protesting umpire's decision ESPNcricinfo staff June 22, 2011 Amit Mishra, the India legspinner, has been fined 10% of his match fee after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC's Code of Conduct on the first day of the first Test against West Indies in Kingston. Mishra was found to have breached Article 2.1.3 of the code which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision by action or verbal abuse". He accepted the penalty imposed on him by match referee Jeff Crowe. "On being given out caught behind the wicket, Amit stood his ground for a lengthy period of time and while doing so gestured to his arm guard until finally he left the crease," Crowe said. "Batsmen are taking too long to leave the crease after being given out. Whether it is just disappointment, it's still disrespectful and, as the code clearly states, unacceptable." Mishra was done in by a short ball from Fidel Edwards, caught at slip while trying to fend it away. All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50% of a player's match fee. It was such a mild protest by Mishra. Mind goes back to recent ashes were everthing was kicking off left right and centre. But nothing happened cos they all after the game was finished met up for weak beers.

Ha! The Aussies and the Poms get away with cold-blooded murder on the pitch and yet Mishra gets fines for standing around. P.S; That said, if you're a batsmen who has been given out, you've no business hanging around till the sun goes down. We all can understand genuine disappointment, but you shouldnt be lurking on the pitch hours after you've been given out, like Mishra did.
