My vote goes to Raina. This guy's got the right temparament. He'll go very very far for India. In a way I am happy Raina managed to cement his place for the English tour. That's idiotic. Family background has nothing to do with it. All you can see is their persona's in the cricket field, you have no way of knowing who's humble who's not. Kohli has had a tough background too in his own way. Buddy lost his father when he was still a teen.

Kohli will find it difficult to retain his test spot for England given that the team will get picked after the 2nd test. Unless he does well in the 2nd innings here, he could in fact lose his spot to Badri for the 3rd test. Viru (if fit), Gauti, Sach and Yuvraj all will comeback to the test team for England, add VVS, RD and Raina and thats our 7 specialist batsmen for the tour. If at all they go with another batsman, most likely it will be an opener. Kohli instead could be sent to the emerging players tournament to play 3 3-day matches in Australia and then later on given further chances when WI come to India for the test series.

Dang. i completely forgot this part. I stand corrected. So Kohli does not have 3 more chances..just 1 remaining to get the selector's attention. Will have to be a BIG hundred. Compare that with Raina...who hasn't looked like getting out once in all the 3 innings so far...I think Raina will be in the starting 11 for the 1st Test at Lord's. So effectively Kohli is fighting for his place in the squad( to keep Yuvraj out).

He will get a chance in the 3rd test. But by then the horse might have already bolted as far as his Eng chances go. SO only 1 innings left to get selector's attention.

I remember watching an interview with Cheeka on IBN after the world cup. He had said "Picking Yuvraj for tests after his WC MoS performance should be given, He definitely deserves another chance". He said something similar when Yuvraj was not fit for WI tests. In any case, Yuvraj did not lose his test spot due to his batting form but primarily due to his fitness issues. Now that those issues have been sorted out and he is back to very good fitness, he does deserve that chance. Upto him though how he grabs them. This could be the case of now or never for him. As for him not playing FC cricket since being dropped, he did play some matches in the last domestic season, 4 matches, 521 runs@75 including that huge 200 in the Irani Trophy final. In fact if you remember, during that SL tour before getting dropped, he had scored 100+ in a practice match and then a 50 in the 1st test before he missed the 2nd test due to a flu.

That one warm up game will be very important for the preparations of test series.

Players like Kohli and Rohit need to be persisted with. 3 innings is hardly a start in intl cricket. Atapattu managed the gand total of 1 after his first 6 innings and Steve Waugh took 3 years before scoring his first Test 100. Give them chances and I'm sure they won't disappoint us.

I always take tour matchces with a pinch of salt. The tourists generally take it as a practice match where they don't operate at full tilt.

Very true: With his poor performances, Kohli has certainly gone down in the pecking order of youngsters claiming for Number 6 position. Pujara, Rahane and Rohit Sharma deserve their chances ahead of him in the future tests after off course Raina and Yuvi.

I wasn't disappointed with Kohli's form but his attitude. He is now what Yuvraj was before. This is what happens when players get success so easily and quickly. He'll learn through it though, now that he is dropped. He is a bright prospect for India in future, his fielding and batting are top class only if he sorts out his on-field behavior.
