His average was 45 IIRC after he made his comeback in tests and played many Important knocks. I would agree on the test cricket thing, But The Rating points only. Not the Floors occupied :P

Well for me Runs matter, No matter how you score. The man has 18000 plus runs with Hundreds in places like Australia, SA, England. Even Dhoni is poor compared to many youngsters in terms of technique. Still played one of the most Important knock in the History of Indian Cricket. If you talk about technique and Skills I'll agree with you, But if you talk about contribution I wont. Even technique wise Rohit, Kohli may be ahead of Ganguly.
Nope, Kohli has an ordinary technique but Rohit has poor performances, so I am not comparing them with dada. He has been a great captain, great contributor to the Indian Cricket, I agree, but in Tests, Laxman, Dravid were slightly better than Dada, you check the stats if you want. His contributions has been immense I agree, but the contributions of Laxman and Dravid is also immense. As saneindian pointed out, All 3 are Legends and have served our country well. Without these 3 Legends along with others, Cricket wouldn't have gained popularity as it has now. :hail: All the three :hail:

I already said I completely agree to you when you talk about Stats in test matches. But all this Talk about technique and staff is overrated IMO. So far in the test Series Raina has Outscored most of the players who have better technique than him.

wow at ppl sayin kohli rohit raina better than Dada.. i am not a Ganguly fan have never been.. but comeon guys stop this BS... Dada has done soo much for Indian cricket. Dravid Laxman Ganguly in that order, but that dont mean these youngsters are better than dada. wtf

Dada should get 6 points for his leadership alone!! Match fixing saga, Sachin refusing to lead the side, A disastrous Aussie tour followed by an embarassing series loss at home to SA, a void in the side with the tainted players like Azhar, Jadeja and Mongia gone from the team..dada battled all this and laid the foundation for the golden decade of Indian cricket. On his batting, had he not been the captain, he would definitely have finished with around 10K runs and a career average of between 45-50, good enought to score a 7.5 or 8 on your scale.
Agree. Captaincy pressure always showed on his batting.

its easy to say that its going to be much tougher to fill Dravid and Laxman's shoes in tests then its been to fill Dada's (in tests and in ODIs) Dravid>>Laxman>>>>>>>>Dada Laxman was at the same level as Dada when he retired but has climbed up in the past couple of years.

Yes he has, but you also need to see the efforts he has put in to play the short ball well. He has done all the hard work and have shown tremendous amount of temperament to stay in the Test side. He looks classy alright, but still Dravid and Laxman did well too. So its not that he has completely outclasses someone with a better technique, and the remaining lot has poorer technique then Raina IMO

After Ganguly made his comeback, Just in case you watched him play. You should know how much he was troubled by Shortball. He was hit quite number of times in the tour to SA on the Helmet still he was one of the most consistent Indian batsman of that series. Even after that till the time he played for India, after he made hs comeback, he was a Improved batsman, particularly against the shortball.

You're right, and the scary thing for Indian cricket is that in the three years since Ganguly's retirement, India still haven't found a replacement at no.6 in Test cricket for him.
