mishra Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 They are one of the cricketing greats India has ever produced. I know its a bit premature to compare because Dravid and Laxman are yet to retire.... But who is the best cricketer among them?
Mariyam Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 In my view. Dravid is marginally better than Ganguly. And both of them are much better than Laxman.
Prakat Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Edit. These are three of the cricketing greats India has ever produced.
NareshK Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 All three are legends in their own right. In ODIs Ganguly > Dravid > Laxman In tests Dravid > Laxman > Ganguly
fineleg Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 In my view. Dravid is marginally better than Ganguly. And both of them are much better than Laxman. Dravid and Laxy are in a far higher class-level than dada.
rkt.india Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Dravid and Laxy are in a far higher class-level than dada. ya in tests
Andy Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Dravid and Laxy are in a far higher class-level than dada. Yes only in Test cricket.
saneindian Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Each one of them a legend on his own and made massive contributions to take Indian cricket to where it is now. Very difficult to call one as better than the other in terms of contributions to Indian cricket.
Andy Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Each one of them a legend on his own and made massive contributions to take Indian cricket to where it is now. Very difficult to call one as better than the other in terms of contributions to Indian cricket. Still Ganguly is not Good enough to be among the 'Elite Cricketers'. I would even rate Kohli, Gambhir higher than Ganguly in terms of Contribution. Remember if Gambhir had not scored 97 in the WC Final India would never have won the biggest Cup. Thats a WC Final. What has Ganguly done? made a Ugly 10-15 runs in the WC Final when the team needed him to score runs to chase done some 250 odd runs. Then the knock Raina played in the quarter Final against Australia, pawns any knock played by Ganguly in any WC. Given the way Raina started, we would take over Ganguly as a test cricketer in next 1-2 Years. And Kohli, its an Insult to Kohli to compare him to Ganguly. He is the next Sachin Tendulkar.
gaurav92 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Corrected You forgot to add Rohit Sharma, Murali Vijay, Mukund, Jadeja and Patel to the list :whine: But seriously, Dada was a great player, but if you compare him with Dravid and Laxman, I think, they will have the upper hand, simply because they had more shots in their book. I have not seen Dada play the short ball well, I have not seen Dada using his wrist and flicking the ball through the mid wicket region. I haven't seen dada play a conventional sweep stroke against the spin. I am not saying that Dada is not a good player, but Dravid and Laxman are better players than him. It is just my opinion and it doesn't necessarily mean you have to acceot it. You may be having a different one, and you are allowed to post it here, no one is against you. Coming back to Gambhir, I think Dada and Gambhir come on the same level, Dada is slightly ahead of Gambhir because Dada look the most elegant batsman through the off side. Seriously if you asked me who is the most elegant left hander who has played for India. The answer would be Dada, but since the game has two sides, off and on, Dada should have worked harder on the on side and scored a lot more freely in that region. Kohli, and Raina are no where near the class of Dada, and Rohit hasn't really performed enough to be rated above Dada. So in my list I'd give Dravid : 9/10 Laxman : 8/10 Dada : 6/10

I can see the sarcasm there but all I can say is don't let your emotions get the better of you.
gaurav92 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Andy stop the sarcasm train here itself yaar. Let us actively discuss something and you raise your point, agree/disagree to the opinions and move on. Please don't use the sarcastic hand :icflove:

So in my list I'd give Dravid : 9/10 Laxman : 8/10 Dada : 6/10 Well for me Runs matter, No matter how you score. The man has 18000 plus runs with Hundreds in places like Australia, SA, England. Even Dhoni is poor compared to many youngsters in terms of technique. Still played one of the most Important knock in the History of Indian Cricket. If you talk about technique and Skills I'll agree with you, But if you talk about contribution I wont. Even technique wise Rohit, Kohli may be ahead of Ganguly.
gaurav92 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 And yes I am referring to Test Cricket only. In ODIs, of course Dada was way better than the other two. In ODIs Dada 9/10 Dravid 8/10 Laxman. 6/10
saneindian Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Dravid : 9/10 Laxman : 8/10 Dada : 6/10 Dada should get 6 points for his leadership alone!! Match fixing saga, Sachin refusing to lead the side, A disastrous Aussie tour followed by an embarassing series loss at home to SA, a void in the side with the tainted players like Azhar, Jadeja and Mongia gone from the team..dada battled all this and laid the foundation for the golden decade of Indian cricket. On his batting, had he not been the captain, he would definitely have finished with around 10K runs and a career average of between 45-50, good enought to score a 7.5 or 8 on your scale.
