1983-2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 It seems that the selectors will pick 5 pacers for England Test series. Zaheer and Ishant are definite, Paraveen will take the 3rd spot with his performance in the 1st test vs West Indies while Sreesanth will also get picked due to few fifers, that leaves us with Munaf and Mithun for the 5th spot. Who do you think should be picked out of these two or take them both and don't pick sreesanth.
Ultimate_Game Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Why is this even a debate? Munaf will walk in ahead of Mithun and even PK in the team. The only reason Munaf hasn't played in Tests is coz of injury.
cowboysfan Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 the question is whether Munaf can stay fit for one whole test match.
urbestfriend Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I'd pick 4 pacers and 2 spinners + 9 batsmen..Dont need 5th pacer. Edit: 3 openers and 5 middle order batsmen + dhoni
cowboysfan Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I'd pick 4 pacers and 2 spinners + 9 batsmen..Dont need 5th pacer. are you kidding? all our pacers are injury candidates.
Ultimate_Game Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I'd pick 4 pacers and 2 spinners + 9 batsmen..Dont need 5th pacer. We will as we have to play 4 Tests and if someone gets injured, and there is a high chance of a fast bowler getting injured, you need someone around else we will end up playing a spinner on a seaming pitch.
urbestfriend Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 are you kidding? all our pacers are injury candidates. Thats why one extra pacer, we always take 5th pacer just to bench him for whole series.
cowboysfan Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Thats why one extra pacer' date=' we always take 5th pacer just to bench him for whole series.[/quote'] as opposed to picking an extra batsman who will NEVER get to play?
urbestfriend Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 as opposed to picking an extra batsman who will NEVER get to play? 7 batsmen will play , need to have a backup for opener and middle order bat.
VRV Singh Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Are there strict restrictions on squad sizes :idunno: Dileep on Twitter thinks it will be a 17-man squad so we can have more options..means we could take 5 pacers/trundlers and an extra batsman or two.

daryl1985 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Munaf. I like Mithun, he is strong and athletic but he is limited as he can also get the ball to come into the right hander. He needs to make the ball go the other way and could probably do with another yard or two of pace.
saneindian Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Neither. Pick RP Swing instead of these two. Even though he is slightly fat and hence a slowcoach, in those english conditions, he will be an ideal bowler for us.
The Realist Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I would pick neither as they are not test standard bowlers. Seriously there have to be some better bowlers out there?
Ultimate_Game Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I would pick neither as they are not test standard bowlers. Seriously there have to be some better bowlers out there? Come on, Munaf is not that bad, especially since his comeback. He would be an ideal backup to Zaheer, Sreesanth and Ishant. Munaf is an ideal line and length bowler and hold one end up, and if the ball is seaming around a bit he would test the batsman on or around offstump.
Cricket Tragic Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Munaf is a major risk as the 3rd seamer given his fitness. If he breaks down in the middle of a match, we're down to 2 bowlers and a batting allrounder (Harby).
jonas10 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Sree if healthy is a must....oh RP why cant you regain your old form.
