Let the West Indies get close to 330-340 in 70 overs, which is tough and I am sure they wont even got for it. Go on full attack and destroy them :cheer: P.S : No more rains P.P.S : Yes, our batting has been very slow, should have up the ante sometime in the third session and taken the lead to 300 yesterday itself :((

I have really been disappointed by the approach of out batsman.We should have made 300+ runs .

What I said was to bat out 20 overs and score 100 runs at 5/over. And what you are saying is to bat for an hour - 13 overs and get 60 runs, which is also at 5 an over. So how can you say that my post means India to slog, given that they will play the first few overs patiently? And don't tell me that we will collapse for nothing. Actually we may very well get 7 an over as we have Raina, Bhaj and Dhoni to follow and we can definitely trust them to score at 7 an over. So it would be better if we have 75-80 overs in hand to win this Test, otherwise if we bat till lunch and declare after the mini milestones are fetched, the mindset is negative and not what a No. 1 team must have.

Raina has been playing international Cricket for India since the last 6 years and I think he is experienced enough to handle such circu,stances, he bailed us out twice in the same sort of circumstances if there is a collapse.

It still had some bounce, sometimes the ball was slowing up a bit and there was wear and tear because it was a 4th day pitch. So it was probably not as easy to accelerate the run rate as you would on flat wickets. You should also take into account that this team is missing many senior members. Vijay, Mukund, Kohli, Raina are very new to test match cricket. Dhoni is out of form and then comes the tail which can get easily bounced by Edwards and co. It was important to ensure first that India were in a strong position before the end of play yesterday before they could go on the offensive, lose wickets and put pressure on youngsters who are not used to playing on these pitches. Now India have nothing to lose, they can score quick runs and declare. Even if they get bowled out, they will have enough runs on the board. Overall very good strategy by India.

LOL I am was takling in general as couple of posts are read about slogging.

saneindian Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 They played the way they should have on a pitch where run scoring is difficult and even settled batsmen are getting surprises by a ball that bounces off good length, spins too much or hits a spot on the pitch and jags back sharply. The number of times RD, VVS and Kohli were beaten during their innings and a number of chances dropped shows that its not easy to score runs here. Easy to sit here and say oh we are no 1 and we should have done this and that. The guys on the pitch know better. And yes, some credit to the windies bowlers too. barring Edwards, they stuck to a very good line and hardly gave us loose balls. Sammy bowled a very good just outside the off line and getting the ball to move both ways. Rampaul was wonderful as was Bishoo. But for the overs being lost to rain, we would have been the firm favorites to win this match. By day 4, we have had a total of 231 overs bowled so far, meaning a total of 130 overs have been lost, thats more than a day and a half lost.
Number Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 I think they first tried ensure that they won't lose this game , so nothing wrong with Dravid and Laxman, in fact thanks to them because we didn't have a heavy lead and in case dravid would have gone we were in trouble for sure. but I agree today we must have a plan to attack and declare it early , because in order to save points we'll have to win this series by 3-0. because of the rank difference India will get some points deducted in every possible result except 3-0. if we win 3-0 then we will get 0 points.

If we score 40-50 runs tomorrow in the first hour(~15 overs) and declare, I think we should win this. WI folded for less than 200 in first innings when the conditions weren't that hard.. now the pressure will be on them to save the match

The reason India is number 1 is because as Kirsten/Dhoni have repeated a million times, the result isn't the most important thing. Following the same processes is. Anyone with any sense or slightest bit of patience will realize that this is an inexperienced team save for Bhajji/Dhoni/Lax/Dravid. So it's more important now to follow the same processes that got us to being number 1. So unless you think you know better, sit back and enjoy the match tomorrow. The POINT is...while we appreciate the PROCESS that got them to number #1 we are less than satisfied with margin of some Test victories say like the tour of NZ where our PROCESS resulted in 1-0 victory when it could have easily been 2-0. Its one thing to achieve #1 ranking and another to maintain it. If you're not going to take the opportunity to win against sides like WI even after securing your position in the match, then criticism is inevitable.
