Gotham Cronie Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Was surprised to read that Bangladesh has never toured India and will not in the FTP that runs till 2020. Has any justification ever been given for this? Please don't turn this into a typical ICF thread. If you can't answer the question, move on.
Sehwag1830 Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Yes. If India tours Bangladesh, then Bangladesh board makes money which they require. However if Bangladesh tours India, BCCI will make loss.
urbestfriend Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I see no justification except financial aspects of it but we can't expect anything better from money hungry BCCI.
Sachin=GOD Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 There are only financial justifications for this and for the BCCI thats all that matters nowadays.
Gotham Cronie Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 That's what I figured but what about from the ICC. What have they said about the matter?
Sachin=GOD Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 That's what I figured but what about from the ICC. What have they said about the matter? ICC doesn't have much power, especially in case its dealing with the BCCI, it becomes even more toothless.
ganeshran Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Bangladesh needs to improve its test team. They have a decent ODI team but they still have not come to the level of beating established test teams. Once they do they can tour India or anywhere else as well. Otherwise the series will be an uninspiring snoozefest

Number Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 That's what I figured but what about from the ICC. What have they said about the matter? bilateral series are scheduled on the agreement from both sides, ICC doesn't have much say in them . if india is touring bangladesh regularly , then I don't think bangladesh would press this issue to force india to host bangladesh as it will cause some loss to bcci. and may cause rift between them.
Zap_Brannigan Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Noone really wants to play BD. How many times have the other teams done it since BD given test status? The obvious monetary gain/loss is probably the biggest reason. But so does quality come into account. If a second 11 can beat an international team, there is no need to call it an international game. BCCI used BCB to get an extra vote against the then dominated "whites" but it is pretty clear that BD is not good enough to be playing international cricket against the big teams. By touring BD instead of only inviting BD, India is helping BD monetarily.
saneindian Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Don't see why this should be a problem. Through an India tour, BD board earns more money than it makes through any other tour. The extra money earned goes into the development of the game in BD. Plus an India-BD series played in India will not see too many people attending the game whereas such a series is played in packed stadiums in BD. As a cricket fan, given an option I would always pick matches played with good crowd in attendance.
Trichromatic Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 bilateral series are scheduled on the agreement from both sides' date=' [/quote'] Future tour programs are decided by ICC and ideally they try that teams play against each other in both home and away series at least once in a decade. But that's what should happen ideally. Considering BCCI influence and money matter, one can understand why BD will not be playing in India.
NareshK Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Nobody is going to watch India Vs BD test matches, even on TV. T20 games could have been played but what's the point of that ?

T20 games could have been played but what's the point of that ?[/quote'] I'll watch India-Bangladesh test match if Sachin, Dravid etc play in it. If India fields it's B team, then I won't. I guess same will be the case with many people. :)
DomainK Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I see no justification except financial aspects of it but we can't expect anything better from money hungry BCCI. On the contrary, BCCI does a favor to Bangladesh by touring them every time. The host team makes a load of money by selling telecast rights. Every time India tours another country, that host country makes a good deal of money and that's why every team wants to host India. If BD tours India, they won't make any money, but if India tours BD, the BD board makes a lot of money.

BCCI as a member of ICC is expected to honor its FTP commitments , there is no favor to anyone. Money is altogether a different issue... I know why BD is not pressing for India hosting them because their survival as test cricketing country will be in danger if they go against BCCI. But it is a shame that BCCI is flouting the FTP rules.

The Outsider Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Was surprised to read that Bangladesh has never toured India and will not in the FTP that runs till 2020. Has any justification ever been given for this? Please don't turn this into a typical ICF thread. If you can't answer the question, move on. Don't know about any official justification for the upcoming FTP, but for the previous FTP it was an understanding between the boards that since no one is going to benefit from Bangladesh touring India, those proposed tours were converted to India touring Bangladesh. Thus India has played by far the largest number of tests in Bangladesh compared to other countries and none at home.
DomainK Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Do you really believe that ICC draws FTP independently and doesn't get influenced by what BCCI wants? If you believe that the FTP is influenced by what BCCI wants then you have to assume that BCCI is doing a favor on Bangladesh by arranging to tour them so that the Bangladesh board could earn some bucks by hosting. If BCCI was influencing the FTP for it's own benefit, they would be hosting Bangladesh instead to get some money out of it. One can not assume that the "money hungry BCCI" is arm twisting the ICC into making an FTP that would actually benefit Bangladesh. Because that simply does not make any sense.
