Captain of Bhangra Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Why bring Pakistan into it? They only had one player in the team. 'cos we're all the same to them...
Kumar Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Not 1 Sub-c cricketer in his dream team, Akram, Muralitharan, Gavaskar and SRT would have had a good shout in other commentator's/editors teams
jonas10 Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Not 1 Sub-c cricketer in his dream team' date=' Akram, Muralitharan, Gavaskar and SRT would have had a good shout in other commentator's/editors teams[/quote'] Exactly why i hate these so called expert goras that compile their lists and intentionally leave out the Murali, Wasims, SRTs etc These are the same people that freak out and write a column in the telegraph when a few "darkies" are selected by majority fans.
mishra Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I agree with Boycott' date=' and anyone who doesn't is biased beyond belief. Are you kidding me? Likes of Sehwag should honestly not even be close. Kapil Dev? He was a great player but to stack him up against SOBERs, and even Imran Khan... eh.[/quote'] What has Imran achieved which Kapil hasnt?
zen Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Why bring Pakistan into it? They only had one player in the team. "Normal" logic would suggest that many in Pakistan would have voted for Imran and Javad. Unless your claim is that many in Pakistan prefered to vote for likes of Sobers, Tendulkar, Lara, etc But if you look at Boycotts' team, many can say that he has tried to sqeeze in as many Eng players as possible so his team lacks creditability .... As they say it is difficult to make everyone happy

Ultimate_Game Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 No point in discussing and arguing over someone's team selection/All Time team. The selection would be that person's personal opinion and everyone is entitled to the same. I don't think we can ever reach consensus on a team selection, be it current, past or all time. Take Bradman's All Time selection which was pretty poor and had loads of players from 30s/40s. If I am not mistaken only Tendulkar made it to his team from modern era. You can't blame Bradman for that as he played in 30s and 40s mostly and he would be biased in favor of players he played with or against. Same is the case with Boycott's selection.

As they say it is difficult to make everyone happy I guess I meant that he brought Pakistan in like they had any undeserving players in the final XI. They only had one player, Wasim Akram.

But people like yourself get upset if any goras get selected, so I'm not really sure what your complaint proves. At least Boycott has picked a few 'darkies' in the shape of Headley, Richards, Marshall etc, or don't they count as proper darkies?
NareshK Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 The list sucks because it doesn't have Vikram Rathore and David Johnson.

No because there is supposedly difference between people like ourselves and Geoffery.... We are generally just fans. Boycott is one of the English Cricketing greats. Unfortunately his selection goes to show that there is allmost equall amount of bias among Indian fans and English greats when picking up a player. :icflove:
Stuge Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 O my Sir Geoffrey Boycott ka gussa . Of-course people will selected only those who they have seen in their life time (except for bradman ).
zen Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I guess I meant that he brought Pakistan in like they had any undeserving players in the final XI. They only had one player' date=' Wasim Akram.[/quote'] That doesn't mean those Pakistani who voted for Wasim would not have voted for others .... Wasim probably made it because he got non Paki votes as well
Gotham Cronie Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 That doesn't mean those Pakistani who voted for Wasim would not have voted for others .... Wasim probably made it because he got non Paki votes as well Yeah but those other players didn't make the team. At that point, you're complaining just to complain.
Texan Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Boycott is absolutely right. Picking a team by voting is never a good idea. People are bound to pick more current players and their favorites. Kapil Dev, although a great cricketer in his own right, should not make a World XI team at the expense of Gary Sobers, Imran Khan or Keith Miller. Boycott's team isn't perfect either. He is being a bit too classical in his approach by picking Knott over Gilchrist / Flower. All teams today need a wicket-keeper who can bat in addition to being safe behind the stumps. Just being a good wicket-keeper is not enough. Knott was a decent batsman, but not as good as either Gilchrist or Flower.

Boycott gives his reasons for his selections, which are quite sound. And one difference it did show is that Boycott doesn't pick his teams based on skin colour, unlike jonas
deepak_sach Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Boycott would include his mum in the team if given a chance... Rubbish!
mishra Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I don't think it shows that at all. Boycott gives his reasons for his selections, which are quite sound. And one difference it did show is that Boycott doesn't pick his teams based on skin colour, unlike jonas You can allways find a reason to justify your view. It doesnt means reason is sound enough. In Boycotts case justification sounds more like excuse. (Excuse is cricket fans selected so many Asian cricketers and he is pissed). So we try to find out reasoning behind Boycotts reason. Isnt thats what Jonas or others are doing here?
TheWall Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Each one has his own favourite... so why crib? when ur chance comes select ur fav player...
