zen Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 The problem with PK is that he may not be able to pick wkts against defensive players like Trott' date=' Cook, Strauss etc., [b']i.e. the sort of players who are happy to see off the good balls and capitalize on bad balls. You do need some pace to play on batsmana's mind. I am not saying you gotta be 90mph+ but surely as a pace bowler you gotta be around 80mph or thereabouts. PK is good in odis as batsmen have to take risks to score runs and that's where PK's line, length and swing gets him wkts. +1 It is not like we are bowling to Sehwags of the world .... You need someone who can bowl wkts taking balls to get these guys out. They would be happy to play defensively at good balls, leave the ones that need to be left and punish bad balls .... welcome to test cricket PK (or such bowlers) fans Nothing against PK. I will be more than happy to see him do well but bowlers like him are not an viable alternative to bowlers like Sree when you talk about opening the attack and looking to get orthodox test batsmen out. If PK was close to Sree in pace, had the ability to win a session for India, reverse the old ball than a comparision is welcome .... Will be happy to consider playing PK as 4th bowler but your top 3 seamers should have the ability to bowl at a decent pace and if a couple of them can swing and reverse then its nothing like it It appears as if many Indian fans get too carried away with ER w/o understanding the priorities and format 2 cs

asterix Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 PK needs to bowl bit further up if he really aspires to take few wickets in this series..
Sid Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Ironically PK so far has bowled better than more phasstterr bowler Ishant.
zen Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 PK needs to bowl bit further up if he really aspires to take few wickets in this series.. if he pitches futher up and the ball doesn't do much then he will leak runs .... PK fans would then be rooting for Munaf :hysterical:

PK fans would then be rooting for Munaf :hysterical: you are right mate main problem in india is we mix t20 odi test performances ,sreesanth for gods sake got a five wicket haul in his last test and we do not have great fast bowlers who are playing in his place,

NareshK Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I dont think most of you guys have seen today's cricket. PK has bowled really well so far, even better than Ishant. He swung the ball and his line and length has been excellent. He beat the bat many times and he was unlucky not to get a couple of wickets. I didnt rate him highly before this match but he did a great job. And that too for a guy playing his 4th test and on his first tour to England. Some of you guys criticizing him, please take a chill pill. Its not easy to get England batsmen out in their conditions. And btw, Sreesanth is way over rated. I think he has potential and I wanted to see him in this line up but frankly its getting tiring to expect him to do well time and again only for him to turn up and bowl absolute rubbish like the WC Final. Sree has not matured with age and he is pushing 30 and he has not improved as a bowler. Compare that to Ishant who is way younger than him but came back from bad form, played more tests and picked 100 wickets first. I think India should look past Sreesanth for good. He has wasted all his opportunities and he has only himself to blame.
zen Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 Many fans use the word "pressure" as if it similar to "pressure of going to the loo". They probably imagine it to be like someone wanting to go to a loo and then you create hurdles on his way and eventually he would shyte in his pants (get out to a loose stroke or something) Many in the current WI team would play test cricket like that but not good players, esp. of top sides. For good batsman, cricket is somewhat like fishing. You wait for catch. Against good sides, you start out by assuming that they would want to fish and thus you have to attack for wkts. Rough them up, throw them out of their comfort zone, entice them (do your own fishing) :P
achilles Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I'm not against playing PK. He bowled well today. But when Wasim Akram opines that a lack of pace can dent a case, I would take his word on it.

Ultimate_Game Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Ironically PK so far has bowled better than more phasstterr bowler Ishant. That's not the point we are discussing. PK can always be relied to bowl a consistent line and length - after all if you are bowling 72 mph that's a given. The point is whether he can run through a side and pick wkts? For all of Sreesanth's faults I find him to be a pretty good Test bowler especially if there is seam and swing movement on offer. He can run through a good batting team and can win you matches. I would always have PK ahead of Sreesanth in odis but in Tests Sreesanth has to be ahead of PK.

VRV Singh Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 PK's skillset has gone in his favour here. Prodigious swing in favourable conditions Not a retard He has done well so far and we got a 9 over spell up front from him where he was consistently on the spot - could we have got that from others without them going to pot? It's doubtful. However I do get the general idea that he is another attritional pick and the frustration to go with it. When you see how well Zaheer and Harbhajan can work batsmen over and stem run flow, it should be the ideal situation for a strike bowler. Sreesanth should be kicking himself because that spot is there for him, just seems like this break he's had from cricket he has come back undercooked and by all accounts unfit.
Ultimate_Game Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I am also a big Sree fan in test cricket but dont think PK has done anything wrong to be dropped and its not as if Sree will come in and run through the opposition. It's just that PK doesn't match up well with Eng batsmen who are generally very patient and defensive (maybe same as SA). If we were playing against WI, Pak or Kiwis I would have picked PK as their batsmen don't have the skill to play a long innings and PK would be successful against them. But Eng or SA can stall if they have to without giving away wkts.
achilles Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 If and if Sree wishes to gain his position again, he must bowl the best he has when he gets picked. Otherwise, with Munaf and PK around, its gonna be bye-bye Sreesanth.
