Well the govt has recognized it as a sport' date=' doesn't matter what you or I think. :finger:[/quote'] That's the beauty of it! The words in the dictionary have no meaning anymore. Next thing you know, someone will try proving that a pencil is a pen :haha: and the Indian government will be the first at it. Do I remember the "cloud computing" and the "rain" video? :haha:

Chess is recognized as a sport by IOC Chess is a recognized sport by the International Olympic Committee with FIDE being the recognized International Sports Federation for chess since June 1999. As a member of the International Olympic Committee, FIDE adheres to its rules, including controversially having doping tests. The prospects of chess becoming an Olympic sporting event at some future date remain unclear. The naming of FIDE's team championship as the "Chess Olympiad" is of historical origin and implies no connection between this event and the Olympic Games.

@transparent Time for you to log off, and come back after 10 years. Hint: you are trying to counter every other guy here, and no one is agreeing with your ridiculous reasoning.
Look who's winning - Charlie Sheen ...wait is he winning for real though? :musicman:

summary for you... "Excelling in sports" is not the criteria for Bharat Ratna - check Ganesh's post on that, so you can not evaluate SRT's eligibility as compared to Vishy's - based on whether Chess is a sport or not, or relative athleticism required in two fields. You kept arguing - but but but... chess is not a sport... Everyone agrees here - excelling in a field, is immaterial of athleticism/physical exertion, or its dictionary categorization of sport/not-sport/social service/scientist/biologist...but you ignore it, labeling as 'crap' - which is why I had to say - you neither understand nor willing to, what it takes and means to perform at highest level - regardless of field. I told you.."via a btw remark"... even if you stick by "chess is not a sport", it is not unambiguously defined.. there is a reason why IOC over-rides Oxford definition and categorizes Chess under sports. Anyway, once again ,chess is a sport or not - is immaterial in context of eligibility for Bharat Ratna. So, that is not the core of discussion. And you, instead of even attempting to understand, started labeling winners and losers - first sign of having entered bubble of delusion. Even now if you do not understand, then I would highly recommend going back to watching porn, would be better investment of your overflowing hormones.

Eh Who gives a rats ass about Hockey or Chess . The reason why other Sportsperson are even coming into consideration is also because of Sachin . Who else could have prompted the Government to alter the eligibility rules so that sportspeople can fit in ? Dhyan Chands career ended long ago yet there was never a mention to award Bharat Ratna to him all this while , this move has been considered only and only so that Sachin can be eligible because his status in his field is too big to ignore and suddenly the usual Langoors are coming up with random choice of XYZ . If not for Sachin the Government wouldnt even have contemplated such a step so any other sportsperson getting this award in the future should actually be thankful to Sachin .

Sachin Fanatics now don't even want anyone else to be eligible. Typical. Anyways, Bharat Ratna has been diluted pretty bad in the past, hopefully with the introduction of these categories they don't make it worse. My first choice cricketer would be Kapil, the guy who was the first to take us to the Pinnacle of the game.
Going by that logic Dhoni deserves it more than Kapil. First taking us to the pinnacle in test cricket (considered by players as the best form of cricket) and then winning the World Cup in grand style thrashing all major teams! Btw even Kapil is of the opinion that Sachin is the most deserving sportsman for Bharat Ratna :giggle:

Abe lad kyun rahe ho...Qualification criteria is below "artistic, literary, scientific achievements and recognition of public service of the highest order" Now if you see the list of winners since C Rajgopalachari, You will find that a number of sportsperson can be included because their achievement is at par with someone getting it for other fields. There is no point in comparing achievement of sportpersons.. Its Sachin's achievement what made government to rethink on qualification criteria. Whether he gets it as first sports person is pointless.....

he dont want stones thrown at his house :giggle: On serious note let them give the awards to guys who really helped to change people... Sachin have lot of time left to get this award

Spot on. Govt was forced to alter eligiblity criteria only..yes ONLY because of demands from various quarters to award Bharat Ratna for Sachin.

Heartening to see my parents' tax money being put to superb use by the Prime Minister's office and the Home ministry.
At least for SRT, he will get a portion of the tax he himself paid :-D

At least for SRT' date=' he will get a portion of the tax he himself paid :-D[/quote'] Not talking about the prize money, but the countless man hours being spent by offices as high up as the Home ministry and the PMO on this chewtiyagiri. Can't really blame them too much either because of the lunatic public which has been going nuts over this issue. The same people will abuse the government, Home ministry and the PMO for not doing enough when the next time some friends from across the border roam around Bombay with grenades and AK47s.

So such bits here and there don't mean much...expectations are so low that even if we get good roads, we would be fine.
