south africa, any day of the week. Steyn and Morkel are better than any english pacer. Swann is indeed the best english bowler, he is good in any conditions. the rest are blow hot and cold especially Jimmy. I would have liked to see a lot more of Friedel de wet.

Morkel a bit overrated here no? Nevertheless would say the relative strength of Steyn and that of Swann kinda level things out. Tahir has proven jack all but if he does half decently then you'd give SA the edge. Won't take much to improve on what they have there.

Sorry to burst the bubbles of the English team admirers here, but I have to say- English commentators and columnists are totally living in Wonderland if they think their team has the best test bowlers. Every time I heard Geoff idiot Boycott and other former English players blowing the trumpet about how fab their bowlers are, I can't help but either: 1) Smirk 2) Get seriously pissed off and wait for them to come back down to earth I don't think it'd be too off the mark to say that their over-reliance on Broad in this Test is very reminiscent of our over dependence on Zak. Don't forget- they're on with a full strength team, and we aren't. We have no Sehwag, no Zak, probably no Sachin and Gambhir in full force- and yet, we can hope for a draw if Dravid (God bless him!) and Laxman stay put. That said, England's pacers are far better than ours as a cohesive unit. Our bowlers, save for Zaheer, don't really strike fear in the opposition. Broad seems to have done just that. Once Broad is out of the picture though, you'll realise just how feeble their attack is. Even a newbie like Mukund was having a field day till he succumbed twice to that inner edge shot... I hope he improvises in time to come, he seems very promising. Back to the question- SA has far better test bowlers than England. They truly have what I'd call a very varied attack- lots of searing/medium pace options, as well as spin. The same can't be said for England, no matter how great the whole nation thinks its team is *chuckle* I'm confident that India can come out on top in this series. Especially if Zaheer and Sehwag come back from their injuries in the 2nd test onwards. THEN we shall see how 'lethal' England's attack truly is.

Last series was statistically probably worst for England bowling attack since Ashes 2006-07. They weren't unlucky in the series either. They got better conditions many times, but still ended with an average of 48 in the series. They expected to fail in Asia, instead their biggest failure came in the home series.
