Midfielder Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 cause we scored fewer runs than them. True but what was the reason for that.
deepak_sach Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 True but what was the reason for that. We nearly lost to an "ordinary team like Bangladesh" in the first test.So this is normal.
Midfielder Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 We nearly lost to an "ordinary team like Bangladesh" in the first test.So this is normal. I am not sure if England won or India lost. In the end it is the same.
yoda Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 True but what was the reason for that. they bowled better... we batted worse... :nervous:
Misu243 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I disagree. I think the batting let the team down. Yes, the batting was our low point. I just saw Dhoni's interview with Atherton in the post match presentation. He mentioned that everyone had to "bat out of place". This is not an excuse but I feel like this may have contributed partly on our batting line up's down fall. We're going to have to wait till end of Trent Bridge to assess our batting skills and form. The following should be the batting order. Lets hope Sachin recovers from the viral illness. Mukund Gambhir Tendulkar Dravid Laxman Raina Dhoni

pinkfreud Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 We lost for a number of reasons. England literally had a party in Zaheer's absence. Though Ishant and PK did bowl well, our team completely lacked the killer instinct. Even when we get off to flying starts in both the batting and bowling departments, we always fail to go the whole distance and finish off where we started. England did everything India did not. The moment they got our crucial wickets (i.e. when the top order collapsed), they went in for the kill. Their body language was superb, you could see the confidence in the way Tremlett was running up, the intensity with which they were fielding (even though they missed many catches and goofed up, they didn't slump their shoulders like our guys often do), and the way they were appealing, encouraging one another. Our guys were the epitome of negative body language. They seemed haggard and lacking in confidence from the word go. Even when England seemed to be in trouble, their tailenders still held on so stubbornly. And when they did, our bowlers panicked and leaked runs, which is the complete opposite of the way their bowlers functioned when our top order collapsed. They had the grit we lacked. That said, I think our batting let us down. I know many will criticise me for saying this, but yesterday's loss had a lot to do with the way Sachin played. The moment he came in to bat, there was a spring in his step, and he looked better than he did in the 1st innings. For the first few balls, he was on the front foot. For some damned reason though, he became utterly defensive and suddenly switched off. He looked highly uncomfortable, and the English team sniffed that, and exploited it to their advantage. I can't understand why Sachin played so defensively. He's always been extremely vulnerable and prone to getting out cheaply whenever he goes into ultra defensive mode and does not play his natural game, and that's exactly what happened last night. But then I guess we can give him the benefit of the doubt since he wasn't a 100%- but what excuse do the other batsmen have? On the other side of the coin... I hate to sound like a stuck record, but ST doesn't have a great record of playing under extreme pressure, the way Laxman and Dravid do. That said, even they failed to capitalise on their flying starts. I'd said before the match that if we are to have any chances of drawing this match, either Dravid or Laxman have to stay on for hours at the crease. The moment they got out before lunch, I knew it was over. Dhoni, as usual, sucked, like he mostly does while batting in Tests. His timing was awry, he too looked bogged down, and could have done so much better since Raina was shepherding us and had already settled down. Hats off to Raina, he's in good form, and I see a bright future for him in Tests if the continues in the same vein. The problem with Team India has always been complacency. They are all too gung-ho about being #1 in Tests, but what's the f***king point if you don't strive to hold on to that spot? Why was Australia the dominant force in cricket for a good decade? Because they were like carnivores, they bayed for the opposition's blood, no matter who it was, and remained confident, replete with the killer instinct that made them such a feared team. That is not the aura Team India has in spite of being the best Test nation and World Champions. We still remain the all-too relaxed, motley bunch of 'chalta hai' flagbearers wherever we go. Whenever we get the opposition in trouble, we tend to think all's well and good and just start losing focus instead of concentrating on bowling them all out. On that note, Dartbhajan has been a major impediment to our team. Sure, he's not in form and all that crap, but at what expense should we insist on retaining him time and time and time again in such crucial series in the guise of hoping he'll bounce back? Bloody hell, other players who aren't doing well are made to sit out, why not him? I don't know how well Pragyan Ojha has done in Tests, but if he has a good record, why wasn't he selected as part of the entire squad, just as a backup? At this point, I don't think India has a great chance of retaining its #1 position IF Dhoni & Co. hold on to their morose body language and keep playing in a negative frame of mind. We are seriously missing Sehwag, Zak, the Sachin who plays with flair and fearlessness, and the killer instinct in our bowling dept. Hoping these guys will pull up their socks hereon. They have a 3 day gap, so they must make the most of it.
Hell Raiser Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Batsmen failed in both innings Zaheer got injured and India was left with 2 bowlers Ishant and Praveen. And most importantly England did play well. We only had just about 1 or 2 good sessions in 5 days. That says it all.
Midfielder Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 This game is rather simple. For India to win they need to bat minimum of 8 sessions. If not there is going to be trouble. With this lineup there should be no excuses. England was the better team and need to learn from that. I know Zak was injured but to dwell on that will take the focus away from the real problem that batting failed.

Not only his downfall, I suspect he was instrumental in Gauti's downfall too. The ball before Gauti got out, Tendu went to Gauti to "instruct" something..Next ball Gauti played a defensive shot and got LBW..Safely to say, Gauti got "Dulkared"..
Trichromatic Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Even if Zaheer was injured, our bowling was one man show all the time. You can say that bowling was weakened by the injury and blah, blah. But as we saw in the match, rarely there was a time when we had two bowlers doing well and supporting each other. When Zaheer bowled well in first session, PK and Ishant were not so effective. Ishant was all over the place and looked absolutely rubbish. This resulted in decent start for England in a bowling friendly condition. On second day, PK bowled very well and he created chances by those wickets. Remember England were 270-5. That was the time when Ishant should have done better. But he was quite average performer then. Bhajji as a senior bowler bowled like part-timer and whatever advantage we got by PK's bowling was reduced because of easy runs he gave. It was hard for him to get wickets, but he was leaking runs way to easily. This is certainly disappointing from a bowler who has picked up 7 wickets. Till then conditions were good to restrict them under 250. With our depleted bowling attack, we should have got them under 350. But like I said earlier, it was one man (PK) show and that's where we lost the advantage. When India came out to bat, conditions were good for batting. Easily it was 350+ condition. Even young Mukund showed that you can stay on the crease. He faced the new ball and scored decently. Batsman played poor shots to get out. In first inning, Anderson wasn't bowling that well during 1st session. It was Broad who did all the damage with the help of Tremlett. Here was the difference. For them they had two bowlers who picked wickets and their spinners ensured that batsman don't get runs easily. Second innings was again one man show. Once we had them for 62-5, at that time, PK and Bhajji should have stepped up. Average performance by them. We expect that our main bowler would have done better job. But a good team should be able to manage even when main bowler isn't doing well or is out of attack as we saw in case of England. Batting was very disappointing. They got out playing loose shots. What was there in the pitch that Raina was able to score 78 and others struggled even for a 50 runs partnership? England did very well as a team. They maintained pressure. Tail-enders supported their main batsman. Overall it was a team performance and we lost to a better side. India never looked like doing well as unit. Lack of batting and bowling partnership shows that very well.

Sidhoni Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Injuries letting us down. But still the inability to clear up the tail hurts us.
singhprakash72 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Because we have long & royal tradition to lose 1st Test against any decent opposition ( exceptions are NZ,WI,BNG &ZIM). Why do we have this grand tradition ? Because we still boast of WISE guys in our cricket board (BCCI) who time and again think our team can magically perform without proper break, proper pre tour camp or practice matches,No fitness check and lastly with zero strategy.

darkknight Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 So, we have lost the 1st test. The 2000th test. A Historic Test. What can we do to make the result turn around, what can the captain do?... few things that I didn't like from the 1st test (in random order,im blazed right now)- * Dhoni not giving the ball to Ishant after lunch yesterday. * Fitness issues ( you ***ing gotta be FIT to play a test), why the hell did you let Zaheer in the lineup? We lost mainly cuz of that, a fit Sreesanth is better than a ***ed up Zaheer) * Rahul, Laxman, Sachin not holding on in the 2nd innings, I expected so much more, I was so confident from yesterday to the start of play today, very disappointed from Dravid especially. * ***ING DROP THIS **** HARBHAJAN, he is a USELESS TEST CRICKETER... DROP HIM, ***ING RATHER PLAY 4 paces.. i may sound crazy, but in Trent Bridge, IT CAN HAPPEN.. if u want some spin ***ing get Raina into attack, IT WONT BE MUCH WORSE THAN BHAJJI. believe me... anwyays, continue, what else you wanna see for the 2nd test... Id also go with Mukund, and drop Yuvi again.. Mukund is bound to perform sooner rather than later.. the guy has a great attitude. also in hope to see a better performance from God... ntohing to be worried about, hell be fine... Fitness. Thats it.
coffee_rules Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Tendulkar's immune system Zaheer's alcohol problem / fitness issues Harbhajan Laxman in both innings Dravid in I2 Dhoni's brain freeze in I2 Tail batting - abysmal in both innings IOW - BCCI's policies and India's lack of preparation.
