on a seaming wicket, sehwag wont do much! quick 30/40 and out to a straight inswinger which he tries to cut and straight to slip/gully! Zaheer's importance will be more crucial

I am not sure Sehwag can do much...his batting does not suit against genuine swing bowling although he did play a few good knocks in 2002. His chances of scoring big are pretty low.It looks pretty much 3-0 or 4-0 now.

Not that SL din't play well, they did well enough to survive this lethal attack. We were caught with our pants down.

Edgbaston will be a hard bouncy track and may not have swing like Trentbridge. They have fast bowlers to make use of a bouncy track. We do not have any.

Try not losing a Test for 3 years, sweetheart. As for the OP- I'm not expecting any miracles even if Viru plays now. Had he been there and 100% fit from the get go, I would've been a lot more optimistic.

English bowlers didnot get much swing against Sri lanka.

The reason behind that is the duke ball which was being used in SL series. New ball duke ball of 2011 is not swinging that much. It happened even in counties. I heard this in commentary of first test I think and they used 2011 balls in SL series and bowlers did not get much swing any of the test in that series, but in this series as they saw the ineffectiveness of the new ball, they have gone back to using old balls which were used in 2010 and we know 2010 English test match season was very fruitful for fast bowlers last year where teams bundled out for less than 100 quite a few times that because of the ball used in 2010. Same is ball is used in this series as well. Indian bowlers missed their chances. There was no reason they should have lost this game after England was 124/8 in first innings, though lack of pace did not help Indian bowlers when Broad started hitting them. I will blame fast bowlers rather than batting. This pitch was not a 500 pitch at all. You cannot stay for 5 sessions and score 400 runs to win against this inform England bowling on such a pitch. Indian bowlers were not accurate. They had no pace, no variety. Bouncers were not threatening. England batsmen were coming down and hitting them where they wanted. A team cannot sustain no. 1 position with this kind of fast bowling. Key to pressure on the batsmen is bowling maiden overs, bowling accurately, but they gave so many 4 balls. How can a captain set a field for such a bowling when bowlers are bowling both sides of the wicket. Batsman did not do any better though. It was a real collective failure for the team.

It'll be tough for Sehwag to make a mark in the upcoming two tests . The ball is moving around quite a lot and he will be rendered useless. India's best bet would be Zaheer and Kumar with Sreesanth backing them up. Harbhajan is and will remain a liability So what are the reports regarding Gambhir? Is he slated to play at Edgbaston?

Yes, Dhoni said so. Sehwag will be playing as well, but official confirmations are yet to be made, especially about Zaheer.

He's reached London and obviously hasn't gone there on a picnic. Let him play the first class match and then the 3rd test. One session of Sehwag could lift the team completely. Yes Sehwag may very well get out on the first ball itself, but even then its worth the risk. However if he himself feels he is not yet fit enough for int'l cricket, we better not pick and send him back to India to continue his rehab.
