No one can "replace" Zaheer Khan in the Indian team. One can only acquire and try to justify his spot in the squad. Surgeries on the knee are not very good for a fast bowler as it only shortens his athletic abilities. And I don't have a direct answer to your question but it will be very though. We still haven't found a capable spinner after Jumbo.

If you look at our history of fast bowlers (feels funny typing this), this is around the age when they finish. Srinath finished at 32 Prabhakar at 32 Kapil played a couple of years more even though he started as a teenager but he was ridiculously fit (and he wasn't great towards the end) Ghavri and Abid Ali at 30-32 Prasad at 31 Going further back, Desai played his last test before he turned 30.

:haha: I know what you mean. Yep, its pretty rare for our fast bowlers to be going on much past 31-32. Even looking around the world, guys like Ntini and Gillespie suddenly declined and were axed in their early 30's. Pollock reinvented himself to go on a little longer. Its over for Zak.

Not the right MOVE 1. He is fat not fit now...bowls at 125K ...PK speed. 2. Does not have the swing of PK. 3. He was successful when he bowled at 140K + with swing which is a dream for him now. 4. Even local batsmen hit him now...and there are many bowlers who were touted as better then him ...its a surprise that selectors looked towards him. 5. Are Umesh yadav , varun Aroon,Unadket ,Pankaj singh, Deepak chahar all below PAr. Is Vinay Kumar. Below par. 6 I am not sure if RP can bowl 40 overs in 2 days even at 125 to 128K..Test match fitness is a different thing as compared to bowling 10 overs in a one day and in local matches he seems to be underbowled and is hardly a successfull bowler now a days....
