Stuge Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 our suggestion wont work .People at the top of BCCI needs to do that. Major Re hauling is needed now from bowling to batting .Everything looks horrible .
Trichromatic Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I don't consider raina a test batsman, he will never make it. :dito: He will always find something to struggle against unless he gets a flat track. If he doesn't go back to FC cricket and change his technique he can't become a good test player who can bat in all conditions.

If he doesn't go back to FC cricket and change his technique he can't become a good test player who can bat in all conditions. And at 24-25, you can't change his technique anymore. He will always lead with the bottom hand and get pwned on pitches with something in them.
kabira Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Gunner, in these conditions, you need bit of luck. You can score runs here with luck. If you see even England were 120 odd for 8 against pop gun indian attack on almost similar conditions. Laxman's dismissial was soft one, Tendulkar played bad short, Dravid got good one, But Gambhir should have been more responsible. he had just guts it out. The problem is right now too many players out of form Sachin, Dhoni, Bhajji, openers At at given time you can accomodate two out of form players. Thats the problem.
Laaloo Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I agree though. We need to do this now rather than later. It was eventually going to end soon regardless.
VRV Singh Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 After the OZ tour seems as good a time as any to press ahead. Not sure about doing so before when there is a real chance to win away with them down in the dumps. But the general sentiment I agree with. Aussies themselves are paying for the 2007 mistakes now. We don't want to fall in the same trap...I mean, there's a whiff of it with the Dravid selection for the ODIs.
Trichromatic Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 And at 24-25' date=' you can't change his technique anymore. He will always lead with the bottom hand and get pwned on pitches with something in them.[/quote'] It's very tough. But he will have to work on it. He has no choice. Either try for it or stick to IPL. That happens in every inning of a test match. You won't find any match where bowlers take all wickets on absolute beauty. It's not luck, rather it's poor performance.
kabira Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 When we were put in, what were you guys expecting. I thought 200 runs would be good. The ball is still doing a lot. You need lot of luck. The problem is our guys are getting out in 30s, suddenly they don't become bad. Laxman, Dravid and Gambhir 3 guys got starts, had to convert them. to 80s and 100s atleast one of them.
Gotham Cronie Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 At least if you do it know, the youngsters won't have to deal with alien English conditions like the likes of Azhar Ali, Umar Amin, Asad Shafiq, and Mohammad Irfan did when they were thrown into the team last Summer. Like anything in life, it's important to get the right balance. Sometimes batsmen can learn more from a senior out at the crease than in the nets. We saw the affect Yousuf had on Ali and Amin when he was recalled to the tour.
Sooda Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Dravid is still our best test bat, Laxman has had a great spell recently as has Tendulkar. What is required so as to prolong their careers because of their age is taking care of them, this is where the board has fallen short so ephatically. India may not have ever won here, but would have done a whole lot better if the preparation was ok. Andy is right Youngsters are being brought in- Kumar, Mukund, Kohli to name three have made debuts recently. So its happening. the selectors have a core group of younger players in mind and they are being phased in. Fact remains our current lot- ageing they might be- are still superior. By some degree.
Sooda Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 As Kabira says this is a good attack on a tough pitch, most battings lineup wopuld have collpased here. Our own bowling did the same to Eng a few weeks ago.

It's not luck, rather it's poor performance. not really, on bowler friendly conditinos where ball is doing all day, you need luck, you don't want to nick. you have to be selective etc. Mind you even English struggled in 2nd test..they just had better lower order who bailed them out or India had poor support bowlers.

In our situation the so called "phasing" in won't work simply because the seniors are 38-39 andd not 35-36. i am telling you the longer we keep prolonging this, the worse it is going to get. Sure Dravid might have had a nice bounce back in this series but what has he done in the last 3 years? Please let us not lose perspective because these guys are our heroes. I might be the bad guy today for voicing my opinions but in the long run our persistence with the ageing heroes will comeback to bite us.

What you term luck is nothing but the additional 1/10th of a sec which a younger man has.
kabira Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 What you term luck is nothing but the additional 1/10th of a sec which a younger man has. well even younger guys have struggled. Look we do have to plan for future, but we still haven't got ourselves able number 6 batsman. Before we phase out seniors we need to find replacement one by one. Raina seems hit and miss. Our selectors went back to Yuvi. We need find batsman who will be good for longer version.
yoda Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Problem is that the youngsters have not come in and done any good. Kohli failed against the mighty WI, Raina is failing here on a regular basis and these are two of the best. I am not saying we don't need a new team, just that there is an overall decline with oldies and the new talent coming up.

GG Mukund VS VVS Pujara Kohli Rahane Not necessarily in this order, but play around with this pool of eight guys with the big 3 being the core. We have to go through a tough phase were we will lose abroad and likely win at home. We can't do much about it. But sticking with RSD/SRT/ZAK/Harby just won't work.

I wouldn't play Raina in the test team again unless he completely changes his technique which I don't think he can.
kabira Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Also some of the injuries to regular batters did give chances to youngster like Kohli, Vijay, Mukund. What did they do with it? But again its initial stage we need to give everyone 15 odd tests before discarding them. Vijay looked good prospect, but his technique has gone haywire, playing too many T20s..must have done that.
