If these Youngsters were half as Good as an Young Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly, Sehwag we could have thought of Drafting them straight in. There is a huge difference in 1> Quality, 2> Temperament, 3> Determination.

In our situation the so called "phasing" in won't work simply because the seniors are 38-39 andd not 35-36. i am telling you the longer we keep prolonging this' date=' the worse it is going to get. Sure Dravid might have had a nice bounce back in this series but what has he done in the last 3 years? Please let us not lose perspective because these guys are our heroes. I might be the bad guy today for voicing my opinions but in the long run our persistence with the ageing heroes will comeback to bite us.[/quote'] So for the WI series at home in Nov, what would your test team be? Going by what youre saying it might scrape a draw but then get utterly gazzumped by Aus in Aus. For instance today MJ took a 6-fer vs SL, if he is in anything like that form- and we know he blows hot and cold- we will be shat upon.

Phasing is not an easy thing. If it was easy and simple, australians would have done it. Its all good on paper. Youngster will find it hard to get settled in losing team. Infact we should have started this two years ago, making a clear plan.

When India first became #1 in Tests, I was expecting the team to lose the top ranking in 2-3 months.. The fact that they've been on top for so long has increased our expectations whereas we should be happy that it last so long inspite of BCCI's underhand practices.. This is a tough tour. The team is full of FTBs. The moment they go back to the FTB land, normal business will resume...

The main issue is planning the tour. BCCI had that Windies tour, 3 back to back tests and straight to England. We should have 3 tour games to prepare ourselves. England did that when they toured Aussies. You need that many game to get used to the conditions and get everyone into confidence mode.

Look, the team is aging now.. No amount of "practice" would've helped..What will you do with practice when you lack motivation? Most of the players don't have any motivation or pleasure to play Test cricket..Ask them to get ready for T20 matches or Campions league, they'll jump up & down to prepare.. The English conditions screwed them up. Yes, they might not be FTBs. But recently they've tend to show FTB qualities because evene if your not motivated, you still can wriggle out of difficult situations on Flat Tracks..Here it's relectless. You have to be constantly on top of your game..But lack of motivation, willingness to go extra mile, overflowing bank balances, safety net of IPL etc. has transofmed them into zombies..just going through their motions..

Absolutely. This is not hindsight, a lot was written about Indias schedule when it was all arranged. It has meant the pacemen are overworked and others like SRT who did not tour WI are undercooked. 'Piecemeal' as Nasser Hussain put it, and he is totally right. There should have been no WI tour to allow these guys to recover after the IPL, then a camp of some sort before three warm up matches as you say. The same should have been done for the tour of Aus. Pointless tours which are arranged for money and nothing else like players well being in mind- Im thinking the ODI series vs Eng and Home and away tours of WI should have simply not existed.

When lot of small things don't go your way, its difficult you know. After winning the world cup they had IPL in a week. and players were busy meeting president and other diginatries.. where was the time to go and relax. Get cricket out of your mind. I think the team that won the world cup should have told BCCI. We want the rest so we will miss 2 weeks of IPL. I guess they did not have guts to do that. If they would have asked for it, BCCI would have to comply with it as they just won the world cup and entire India was with them.

I am willing to get pwnzered in Oz and start it off as a good learning experience for a youngish team. After all Oz don't have too many superstar players either anymore. Let them slug it out and learn through the hardships and pressure.

Guys this thread is not for questioning the motivations of the current team. it is about building anew one. So I request everyone not to stray from the topic.

They were unprepared for the 1st test not the third one. I am sorry this argument is untenable now.

Building a new team is not easy. First BCCI has to agree to that notion. Then they've to get that decision ratified by the Advertising Mafia..Afterall millions of $s are at stake on many players..If the Advertising Mafia agrees then BCCI goons will agree too..

Alright all the guys who are opposed to a major overhaul, I would like to hear what your transition plan is. It seems that you guys are putting this down to some knee jerk reaction of baying for the blood of the old players. So I would like to hear what you guys have in mind.

It doesn't matters what we have in our minds..It matters what the Broadcasting companies, Advertising mafia, BCCI goons, Same selectors on extentions, IPL franchisees etc. have in their minds..

easier said then done. I stil want the phasing out done but it should be one at a time. BCCI has to talk to Big 3 and ask them how long they can carry on. For F&cks sack they chose Dravid in ODI team.

You just play against top teams. so if there is tour to Windies, we can send new team there. If there is tour to Zimbabwe, we send new team there. But against likes of England, Australia, we need seniors. Also we need lot of A tours which will help transition. The guys like Mukund, Pujara, Kohli, Rohit, Rahane, they have to play those away A tours, 3 or 4 in a year. BCCI has money to arrange those tour. I bet they can find sponsor and even A tours can generate money for home board.

I still believe that at times you need a senior out there to talk to and guide a youngster. If you send a youngster out there, what good is going out to the crease and getting out in a matter of minutes doing to their confidence. And how much experience are they gaining really?

I think we cannot change whole middle order at once. First we need to fix our number 6 problem. Then think about any other place. Bring Pujara at 6 for good time and let raina play FC and A games. BCCI need to organize more A tours. Guys like Vijay, Kohli, raina, pandey, tiwarys, rohit, rahaane, kukreja, rp varma, Ganesh Satish, even CM Gautam looks a good Wk-batsman. They must be groomed.
