England targeting 2015 World Cup

England coach Andy Flower highlighted the World Cup as a new target after his side became number one in the Test rankings at Edgbaston on Saturday. They beat India by an innings to take a 3-0 lead in the four-match series. However, Flower insisted: "There's no way our goal will be just trying to maintain that status. We've got to have something more exciting than that. "England has never won a 50-over World Cup so 2015 is something we've already started planning towards." Since Flower was appointed full-time England team director in 2009, the team have not been beaten in the nine Test series they have played, winning eight and drawing 1-1 in South Africa. Their limited-overs form remains inconsistent, however, and although they won the World Twenty20 last year, they are currently ranked only the fifth best one-day international team. After a 10-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka in the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Cup, Andrew Strauss retired from one-day cricket to focus on the Test side, with Alastair Cook named captain as the team builds for the 2015 competition, which takes place in Australia and New Zealand. Swing bowler James Anderson told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek: "Every nation wants to be number one in all forms of the game but it very rarely happens that way. I don't see England lifting any other trophy in Australia. Not that they are not good enough(actually they might not be good enough then), just that they have reached their quota of winning series over there. An Ashes win recently and vb series few years back.

Bresnan would have started babysitting Steve Harmison Stuart Broad would have become the new English selector overtaking Ashley Giles. Anderson would have been dropped from the team. Matt Prior would be playing his last few games and would end as a captain. English cricket is TOP CLASS.

lolz...can't defeat Bangladesh and Ireland and want to win the world cup in Australia :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Seriously, this ODI series will determine the extent of England's prowess in the sport. Clearly they are the Test champions and there is no denying that. If they win the series defeating the ODI world champions, they will be very strong contendors to win the cup in 2015.

England have done pretty well in ODIs actually. They've won 10 out of their last 12 series I think.

That is wonderful. But their opponents weren't that good' date=' were they?[/quote'] They beat SA home and away (whitewashed SA at home) They also beat Australia, Pakistan and SL. Lost 2 series vs Aus after they won the Ashes in 09 and this year.
