Sachinism Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Never, maybe the 2001 series before the turn-around
Karan114 Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Personally I felt this way during 90s and the last time I felt this low was in 1999 when we toured Aus. And before that when we toured SA in 96 IIRC where we were blowed out for 66 and 100 in the first test. I seriously thought I would never see those dark days again as no matter what that my team will always show some fiht. But ths series has produced throwback performance of 90s in all its glory. For me if we lose to Aus in Aus later this year we would be back to square one. Aus 99 for me too, just because of the relentless way we have been crushed Test after Test. As for SA 96, while the first Test was diabolical, at Cape Town Azhar-Sachin put on that glorious partnership to avoid the follow on (still got hammered but at least showed a flicker of fight) and then we played really well at Wanderers, should have won but for the weather. But yeah, I never imagined we would see these days as long as Dravid, Sachin and VVS were around. After they go, I knew we were in for some thrashings away from Asia, but on this tour...didn't even occur to me.
cameron_black Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 And that 195 on the first day at the MCG in 2003/04, his first test in Australia! http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64061.html Again averages, you can play for averages or you can play for results. Viru doesnt care about averages.. :finger: Now Don't tell me that he can't play in England. His first match as an opener in the below link http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/63998.html both scorecards prove that those tracks were heavily batting friendly ones (at that time, at least) sehwag <--- LOL
Cric_is_Life Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I have always Sehwag said...Sehwag is primarily a STB. Sure he has a few knocks here and there in trying conditions, but he is at his best when there not much sideways movement or steep bounce. Don't worry he will go back to India and score runs again. What a phaacking loser!!!!!! See, His style of batting is dominate the bowler from ball one. If any bowler can bowl first few unplayable (unscorable) deliveries to him, they will get him. He is not good leaver of the ball. Once he gets in, then the good balls become boundary balls for sehwag regarless of any sort of pitches.. . :king:
saneindian Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Would walk into all test 11s irrespective of an average record outside India. Was undercooked and needed more time here.
gs Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Seems like team India has found itself in a bottomless hole!
Cric_is_Life Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 both scorecards prove that those tracks were heavily batting friendly ones (at that time, at least) sehwag <--- LOL Once sehwag score runs on any pitches, those will become flat pitches for others to follow.. Thats the impact..:hatsoff:
Ultimate_Game Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 It's a combo of 5 and option 6 which you didn't list... Option 6 - Blame BCCI BCCI simply slept at the wheel and didn't plan for the series at all. This sort of a result was comng anyways coz you can't show up for major series away from home without preparing adequately. The scheduling has been crazy with workload of players not manaed and the injury management plan is non-existent. Add to that the premise that we will somehow perform at our peak without any acclimiatisation or practice games, and players can simply walk into the team for a Test without so much as a proper nets session (Zaheer and Sehwag) and you have a recipe of disaster. I would rather play less cricket as long as it's quality and gives our team the best chance to succeed. What's the point of cramming in series after series when players simply don't have the appetite for the same? BCCI will have to take lion's share of the blame for this fiasco.
Sachinism Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 701/6 Declared You beat off transparent's 700 haha. PM me to say you incase I forget (cant do it now, on phone)
apeeman Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Incidents i recall India West indies where we capitulated at 81 chasing 124 India Pakistan match @ Chennai The whole 99 Australia tour WC 2007 loss to Bangladesh WC 2003 final India NZ 2002- 2003 (when Rahul Dravid was the only man scoring) But i got to say, this tour is probably the lowest i have ever felt. I think with every tour, i always hoped for a victory but never believed we could do that. The current team and their performance over the last two years gave so much belief. My faith lies shattered.
StatsRock Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Really good question. I would usually think less than 30 secs for an answer but you made me think hard. 1. Aus 1999? Comes close but atleast that was after Australia had in peak form having just thrashed Pak 3-0. Pak attack then was three times as good as India's. And the Aus team of 1999 were one of the all time greatest. So not a fair comparison 2. Eng 1996? - We did decently in WC96 and Sharjah and then played Cork, Mullaly, Lewis, Martin as if they were Ambrose/Walsh/Marshall. But atleast Prasad/Sri took wickets though the fielding was bad. Not this one. 3. Aus 1991? - Lost 4-0. But atleast we came close at Adelaide chasing 372 and got 333 in Innings 4. Nearly won at Sydney 1992. Poor comparison. 4. WI 1989? - Lost 3-0. This is the closest. But then we were playing Walsh/Marshall/Ambrose/Bishop. Kapil took nearly 20 wickets. No such fight here. Watching since 1983 and cant think of any other. The only one I can think before I followed was Pak 1982-83 where we lost 3-0 in 6 tests. But then again we drew three tests despite home track bullies Miandad/Zaheer having immunity from umpires. So this is it.....the 'summer of 42' that happened in 1974 is the closest. Like Sudhir Naik arrested for shoplifting, I hope Dartbhajan or Glennsanth get nailed for pilfering underwear :haha:

As usual, we did not win anything, but i think we have seen worse.
Cricketics Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 2002 New Zealand. Close to this. Though this series isn't over yet. Even if we draw it. We are going to end the series by winning last one and make it 2-1. Everyone will forget what happend. They will just remember it was a closely fought series, in which England dominated first 2 test and half of 3rd test, and India ended in style making it 2-1. In New Zealand, we just sucked against them in 2002. Vettori even never got the bowling, their seamers used to finish us up early.
NareshK Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 This is easily the worst performance of the decade. Even the legendary Aussie team has not whipped us like this since 2000. +1. Even the great Australia team under Steve Waugh drew the series 1-1 against India in Australia. Our team had a great chance to win the series if not for Steve Waugh's innings in the final innings and Bucknor's help. I never rated England as a good team all these years. They finally seem to be getting their act together.
saneindian Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 If the likes of Iqbal and Dilshan can be successful in England as opener,s no reason to believe why Sehwag can't be. Needs to restrain himself a little. Oval will be his last chance to reverse the trend of low scores outside Asia (happened in NZ and SA and even here. All the time getting out trying to play attacking shots).

saneindian Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Also english media compared Indian team with dog. ****ing idiots. A headline that says "Sheepish India gone to the dogs" isn't quite comapring the team to the dogs. But our media can twist anything the way they want. That headline is inapporpriate but then what else would you expect from The Daily Mail.

Cricketics, even assuming that we draw this match and win the next one, i think this series is a big scar that is not going to go away easy. I think we should let the sreesanth on them...in his true agression. He'll create so much controversy on the field that we'll forget this dismal performance.
ShanS Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 After the 2007 WC debacle. I started watching cricket from that epic series in 2001 so didn't see this team performing so poorly except .
