Jayaram_IND Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I dont want an indian bowling coach. These bowlers are brought up in India and they know a lot about the condns here.If they want to improve their skills they can always go to NCA or the MRF Pace acadamyor ask experienced bowlers like Zaheer. We need more of our bowlers playing overseas maybe in A tours or playing for the counties.
Pagalpanti Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I doubt Wasim will take the position..No matter who the coach is, there is nothing that can be done with these 70 MPH guys.. Wasim wouldn't want to mess up his legacy. I also believe he wont' be a great coach. Just coz he he was a great player, doesn't mean he will be a good coach either. He hasn't done much with KKR. he may not but perhaps he might be helpful in embarrassing our young bowlers by bowling quicker then them even at 40 :cantstop:
prinzo Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Yesterday 04:32 AM cricket_god Anybody except simmons will do,the guy does not international experience ,not great in fc either, limited coaching experience and he gets the job Wrong Eric has lots of experience , he was a SA international as well as the HEAD coach of South Africa. maybe the fact of the matter is that whichever bowling coach comes in , it wont make a difference , The Idiian bowlers also need ot think for themselves what lenght , line ,pace to bowl at , i mean this is not schoolboy cricket , where you need to be spoonfed. The fact of the matter is the bowlers have been smashed properly by a great england batting line up that made the indian bowlers look like schoolboys. India need 1 or two new fast bowlers to take over .
Hell Raiser Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 he may not but perhaps he might be helpful in embarrassing our young bowlers by bowling quicker then them even at 40 :cantstop: :haha: And he will be more fit than every Indian bowler.
saneindian Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Eric Simmons looks fitter than some of our bowlers like Sree and RPS. Would you blame Eric for the bulging waistline of Sree and RPS (which is the biggest reason why they hae bowled utter rubbish so far)? As Dada and Akram said during the last test, someone like Sree is all ears when you give him tips but forgets all that when he begins bowling as if he doesn't really care. Not sure if having even a Donald, Imran or a Haddlee as coach will help when bowlers show no attitude to learn and work hard.
urbestfriend Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 What baffles me is team selection in playing eleven when Munaf has been with the team practicing , they had a brainfart to select RP singh. No excuse here, coaches must take the blame as much as selector.
Jayaram_IND Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Maybe we can make someone like wasim akram our bowling coach?he is a great bowler and could help our youngsters.
Pagalpanti Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Not sure if anybody catched this but in post day discussion, Eric Simmons: "Yeah the bowlers have bowled lots of overs so they are mentally and physically fatigued. :((" Wasim Akram: Furiously "If a coach talks like that what effect will it have on bowlers, PK is just 23 and made debut just 3 weeks ago if he is fatigued.... its beyond me" I fully agree with Wasim Akram, what the hell are coaches there for if bowlers get mentally stressed in just 5 tests.
Cricket Tragic Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 I would like to see Srinath as bowling coach if Simmons is sacked. Srinath is an ICC match referee.
ensd2 Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 he and duncan should be sacked , they are useless , so fare
Midfielder Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 He should go but definitely dont want Akram as the coach. Just bcs you bowl good does not make you a good coach. I would vote for that Australian guy India hired as a coach couple years back during the Aus series. It seems that is when Indian bowling peaked.
Trichromatic Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Srinath is an ICC match referee. I know. I think he will accept the job of coach. Imo, Wasim and Srinath would be good choice. First job of selectors - Give them a bunch of young bowlers who are willing to learn and put some effort even if they don't have much skills. Wasim - If he can become coach of KKR, then why not Indian team. Somehow this guy finds potential in every bowler and despite their sever limitations he can tell them 100 areas of improvement. He is very experienced and knows a lot about bowling. He has faced probably all kinds of situations in his career. Other factors that goes in his favor is that he knows Indian cricket very well. He knows about Indian bowlers. What they can do and what they can't. His few comments about Ishant - Ishant bowls wide of crease. If he can come closer to stumps, then he can be very effective as he will get more LBWs with his natural inswing. Wasim told his experience when he was trying to do the same. He used to put a cone in the middle of crease and try to bowl withing that. He did that for 2 months and changed it. This was not easy. That's the way Ishant can become more effective with his natural ability. Just goes to show that he not only knows areas of improvement, but he also knows how to do it as he has done it himself in his career. He is aware of difficulties associated with it. Wasim can teach lot of skills which he developed in his career. Srinath Srinath never dropped pace and he was probably best pacer after Kapil. He will get more acceptance among bowlers and he can work with Indian bowlers in a better way. With appointment of such coaches, they should be given more power. Separate coach for spinners India needs to maintain it's spin department. This is one area where India can't complain like fast bowlers' case. There should be a group of 4-5 professionals which can be called as assistant coaches who would look after the pool of (6-7) bowlers in India. Whatever the main coach will decide for a bower, it would be duty of assistant to look after these bowlers. BCCI has lot of money and it's time that they spend it on development of players.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 @Vibhash, Have to be careful how many coaches we have else we will end up with "too many cooks spoil the broth" situation. Moreover at intl level coach can't really make much of a difference to the player - that is done at domestic or under-age level. At this level the coach's main role is to keep the player honest and point out mistakes that are creeping in a player's game. It's more of a mental aspect than skill/technique one at intl level and if you get a knowledgeable coach he should be able to handle both spinners and pacers.
Cricket Tragic Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 England actually have a wicket-keeping coach (French), batting coach (Gooch) fast bowling coach (Sekar) and spin bowling coach (Mushy). That is just the cricketing side. They also carry loads of other people like a video analyst, statistician (wtf?) etc. On the issue of a bowling coach, I'd rather have a specialist (Sekar, Pont).

I am ok with fielding, batting and bowling coach but not fast or spin coach. Else where do you draw the line? Would you also have separate coach for openers, another for middle order and one for lower order batsmen? And I would also assume India already has video analysts and a team who works on their upcoming opponents before the series starts so that team management can plan accordingly.
