Fontaine Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 by simple i meant easy to repeat ,front action has been bane of many bowlers who have suffered injuries, but his action is like ben hilfenhaus ,which seems to be smooth . i did not find front on pics but their action looks similar. No it's not. Hilfenhaus has a smoother action because he doesn't explode through his gather to follow through as he's a swing bowler and has to release the ball from the wrist rather than forcing it. Like rkt said, he almost pauses before delivery. Aaron is the opposite. He expodes through his gather/follow through because he wants to generate pace and he's doing that by a strong front leg block and pushing with his hips/shoulder. The good thing is that he seems to bowl close to the stumps which means he'll be accurate most of the time and any swing/seam movement will be a bonus. You can see the difference in the way Hilf tries to keep his head upright in follow through, whereas Varun's head snaps down because of the chest/shoulder drive. They are only similar because their backfoot collapses and front foot blocks down. Otherwise Varun's action/follow through is much, much closer to that of Brett Lee's. @rkt What do you think? I find Brett Lee's action closest to that of Varun's?

saneindian Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 If Varun is consistently 85+, I would be more than happy with that. Let's not hype the young kid too much. Will need time to adjust to international cricket and hopefully he is ready for it. Given RPS' fitness, will not be a bad idea to have a few additional seamers for the ODIs.
Fontaine Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Sudeep Tyagi is also another bowler with potentially a very good action. I've seen very little of him but he looks to have a very high arm action with the front foot blocked down and quick arm rotation which along with his height is the reason why he can bowl quick. But Tyagi really needs to work hard on his strength. He looks like Ishant Sharma did in 2007, very skinny and should work hard on his endurance/core muscle strength. The upcoming FC season should be an important one for these young bowlers but also for Pathan if he can get his rhythym back. It would be a great help if Pathan can just have one more season of good FC cricket and injury free because he needs to stop with this IPL crap of bowling 4/5 variations an over and instead work long and hard on releasing the ball with that 3/4 seam position he used to be so damn good with at 130 kph+
ZodiaC Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Excellent. Now we'll get to see a good look at Varun, finally. England is the best place for you to make your ODI debut.
Blue Panther Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 The most important thing happened to varun is he is match fit. He has played 3 day games in australia and i was just hoping that he comes out injury free because there are exmples in the past like munaf who used to bowl at good pace at the domestic level but got injured when he was about to get selected for indian team. It is definitely a good news that varun is match fit and not sitting and putting on weight like our other pacers rp singh, zaheer and sreesanth did. I was hoping that the selecters would pick umesh yadav, but the jokers have picked rp singh who didnt do anything in the test match. And why we aren't discussing abt ajinkya rahane? Is he a stroke maker? Have u guys seen him play?

He can go full throttle as he settles down.

I find Brett Lee's action closest to that of Varun's? Look at upper body part of HIlfy and Varun, you will find the difference. Varun stays very close-straight on at delivery stride, while HIlfy has a bit more open chest. Brett Lee is a bit different in his jump at the delivery point. Aaron does not have that kind of forward jump. both has similar leg positions while delivering though.
saneindian Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Gambhir's injury also looks quite serious. After a concussion, he will definitely need to rest for a couple of weeks. Then there's the case of PK. Dont think an ankle injury can heal itself after resting for a few days. I will not be surprised to see Gauti and PK being ruled out of the ODIs as well. The BCCI better name two replacements and send them over to England rather than waiting for them to be ruled out. In fact name 3-4 reserves and send them to England right away . Have a funny feeling Nehra will somehow make a comeback if he is fit.
ZodiaC Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 And why we aren't discussing abt ajinkya rahane? Is he a stroke maker? Have u guys seen him play? 5r4kQpB8VFw He's damn good when he's in form. Sehwag 2.0
rkt.india Posted August 22, 2011 Author Posted August 22, 2011 Whatever little I have seen aaron he looks like having extra bit left in him when bowling.wish he bowls well Yes..I think he can bowl even quicker what he is bowling when I have seen of him. Supposedly, he was was quicker than what he is now before he had made corrections in his action after his stress fracture. I had seen him in a video footage on Aajtak during a sports program during IPL3 last year bowling to Saurav Ganguly where Ganguly looked clueless against him and was not even able touch deliveries.
Blue Panther Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 5r4kQpB8VFw He's damn good when he's in form. Sehwag 2.0 mmmm.Thats pretty good, what struck me the most is his balance when he plays his shots. Bit more muscle power would be great.

Karan114 Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Good to see Rahane finally get India recognition, though might not play in this series.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I pray that he succeeds...he will have couple of matches to get used to...........Hoping that he bowls in the 150s and takes a few wickets....
vishalvirsingh Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Selectors did the best thing to select Varun as he seems to be at full throttle now and is bowling 145K + ball atleast one or two in an over...I wud suggest he shud be brot on from the first match itself and I bet he will get at least one guy Hurt and one guy bowled in every match...this will create fear in the batsmen and hurting a batsmen is also great as then the batsmen"s mind is hit and he gets unsettled n finally out. Salute to selectors for bringing in Varun and Rahane at the best time ...some may seem its little early but when other bowlers like ZAk is un available and Sreesanth is not good enuf for a 1 day and we are so very unsetteled that v r playing a unfit ...sorry FAT RP.... PK Varun and Vinay Kumar along with Ashwin is a Good Attack....even Munaf can be considered but Munaf is not Wicket taking where as Vinay and Aroon and even PK r attacking wicket taking bowlers Munaf is A defensive bowler who may get u a wicket if batsmen go behind you.

It is not that english batsman will face pace for first time .he will be hammered if he just goes for pace he has to more than that .
vishalvirsingh Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 PK is fit now he was not badly injured it ws more of strain it seems so I don't think he is flying back and one DAys is just 10 overs for a bowler PK can handle that possibly....but u r right if he is unfit they shud get Umesh or UnadkAt as nehra won't be MATCH FIT...
vishalvirsingh Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I believe in Varun"s capability and I feel if he is hit he will also hit back the batsmen or get him out even Gilly hit him and very soon his stumps wre down
