CG Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 When they think about Australian side, then see Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist. But scenario has changed. To be comparable with Aussie team of last decade, they have to win the matches. They don't have to get big names like that. They can do what aussies did in their era. Winning against WI, Australia, England, Pakistan, NZ etc. Aus won away in every country except india.that madse them special .sa have had convincing home wins for years also
CG Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I don't know how the series against SL was struggle. They won 1 match by inning and were better than SL in two matches. They would not have won for that collapse it was a draw and srilanka draws last 2 tests in eng its a good result for srilanka looking at their away record and team
rkt.india Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Cricket is not played on paper.england have. Many weakness as other teams .andrew strauus form' date='eon morgan, swann against sub continent teams is not that effective.england have played well but fact.is we were terrible.I do not think eng will win against pak or sl.when they come to sub continent things happen and home advantage is huge factor.[/quote'] Strauss just a had bad series. Morgan is not that good but still he scored 100 against us. and How can you say Swann is not good against SC teams. He troubled Pak and had 6-fer here. England may not have Mcgrath or Warne, but the overall alround structure of their team makes them as good as that team. I would like to ad Australian team actually became the greatest when Hayden and Langer started open the innings and Ponting came at 3. That is why I should say 99 Aussie was not great. They were very good. Great Aussie team came later.
Trichromatic Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Aus won away in every country except india.that madse them special .sa have had convincing home wins for years also Teams are not stronger like that at their home now. India has struggled in home series in last few years even though they haven't lost many matches. India had Kumble and Bhajji in their side to win matches at that time. SA's record is better away from home. SL had Murli who was best match-winner for them. Swann is now better than their spinners.
rkt.india Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Aus won away in every country except india.that madse them special .sa have had convincing home wins for years also but last 2 matches were rained out most of the time.

It was still an inning victory. Can't take anything away from them for winning that match. Two draws? England were ahead in those two matches. But you said it was struggle for England? :hmmm: 350 overs in 2nd test and they needed 7 wickets. 250 overs in 3rd test and SL were 150+ runs ahead with 5 wickets in hand. For this SA team, like I said they have better away record and their home record is pretty average.

If you compare this england team with australia then that means you did not watch cricket in 1990,then teams had great bowling attacks ,slater was opening against wasim, waqar, ambrose, walsh, srinath, and others spinning standard was also good and pitches were lively ,many consider slater to be better than hayden who struggled in that era and not to forget mark waugh and steve waugh ,there brand was different they were attacking over attacking some times .but they had resources .english team is defensive team they had excellent home season let's see them away

Raghav_12 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 This is without doubt worst performance by an Indian team from the time I started following cricket i.e. for last 22 years. Other defeats which come close to this are, India's series in WI 89 (Lost 4 tests series by 3-0, saved by rain in one), Series in Australia 91-92 (Lost 5 tests series by 4-0. Did well in one test at Sydney), Series in Australia 99 (Lost 3 test series by 3-0). So not only in terms of the way they surrendered, but also in terms of absolute numbers it is India's worst performance for last 20 years or so. Hail our great Captain - M S Dhoni.

Your standards must be extraordinary if that looks like struggle to you.

Sidhoni Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Thank you ! That brings a question..! Is current England team equal / better than that Australian side? The better question is - Is this Indian team better than team of 1999?Yes.This team was No.1 b4 this series.
