Cricket Tragic Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 ^ Well because I think we do care about it' date=' thats why we're seeing [b']such harsh reaction by fans/experts. Its because of this Anna episode that these players have escaped from the heavy criticism they would've received from the media. How would you compare it to the the World Cup defeat in 2007?
Ultimate_Game Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 The majority of the public don't care about Tests. General public cares about major tourneys - WC, T20 Cup or even IPL, and Tests is at the bottom of the pile unfortunately. The only time a few ppl may watch Tests is when Sehwag is batting or SRT is about to score another 100 but other than that not many people care about Tests. Even people's reaction back home is testament to the fact. If we had performed as miserably in a tourney like WC or T20 Cup or Champions Trophy or even Asia Cup people would be busy burning effigies or throwing stones at players' home. The media and TV channels would be busy asking for players' heads with sows like "Match ka Mujrim" etc. and the news would dominate almost everything else but this Test series hasn't seen any reaction at all, as if nobody cares. This reaction proves where Tests lie compared to other formats of the game much better than what a poll would. It's extremely unfortunate that Tests will eventually die based on what I am seeing these days and players like Dravid will never be seen again.
ganeshran Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 The Indian public care about ranking yes. The number 1 ranking was a source of prestige for them, but they dont really care about test cricket itself. Many of them dont even know that there is a series doing on.

Complete domination of LO cricket and batting. Ask kids how batsmen batted, they will tell sore, balls, sixes, description of sixes and everything. But ask them about bowling, no one would mention that he bowled brilliant spell to batsman X or how they took wickets etc.

Pagalpanti Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 How would you compare it to the the World Cup defeat in 2007? Well yeah, the furore was massive back then, but I didn't mean the crowd cares/rate test more than ODI, but surely its not that Indians don't care about it all.
Sidhoni Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 How would you compare it to the the World Cup defeat in 2007? Or even in the T20 Wc's of 09 and 10

vvvslaxman Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I didn't expect such a lopsided poll. :omg: After effects of pounding we recieved. Your timing was wrong. :cantstop:
ganeshran Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 :WTF: seriously.. Many people I ranted to about the pisspoor performance in this series met my complaint with blank stares..
yoda Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 ofc we don't care. we just got thrashed 4-0. :hahaha:
WC2011INDIA Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 17-1 thanks to my vote. ODI, WC, and T20 are much more popular and discussed about. Very few talk about Tests.
CG Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 if lose odi series 5-0 then there will be a furore, people care about ranking but now as we lost it test cricket will not be priority which is sad
ganeshran Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 After effects of pounding we recieved. Your timing was wrong. :cantstop: True. The loss certainly effects the results. But it would be the same trend even if India was winning, just not this lopsided.
Cricket Tragic Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 After effects of pounding we recieved. Your timing was wrong. :cantstop: How many people turn up to watch tests in India where we have lost 2 series in 24 years?
Cricket Tragic Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 seriously.. Many people I ranted to about the pisspoor performance in this series met my complaint with blank stares.. Do they follow ODIs though? Maybe they weren't cricket fans?
ganeshran Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Do they follow ODIs though? Maybe they weren't cricket fans? the keenly follow the marquee matches like the WC knockout matches. Certainly not fans, but not entirely cricket illiterate either.
Trichromatic Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I was shocked after 2nd test when my mom called me and first line she said after hello was "India ko to series me harwa diya na tumlog".
Sidhoni Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 18-1 Pagalpanti is receiving a good embarrassment here.
