Does the Indian public care about test cricket?

How would you compare it to the the World Cup defeat in 2007?

I was one of the ones who arrived in Barbados back in 2007 to watch the India V Pak / India v West Indies Super 8 games.. :( That felt bad, having booked a first overseas trip just to see India and having booked the flights/hotels tickets...seen them crash out against Bangladesh and then that Sri lanka game :( However, this felt worst, after so many highs since that disaster of a World Cup 07. After Lords, I thought we would fight back at Trent Bridge, we nearly did but since the Broad hat trick, 2-0, it just got worse and worse...............and worse, then 3-0..now topped off with 4-0! This for me feels a lot worse than 2007 WC.

Pretty much what I thought. Most people would watch atleast India's batting in ODIs (esp the first 15-20 overs with our openers).

I think a better poll question would be, "Do you care for Test cricket?" In the previous question you are asking us to tell on behalf of the whole of India, so it is rather obvious that each one will answer based on his perspective. Many times that perspective would be influenced by the way one generation views the other. And add to it the temporal influences of current drubbing, individuals will feel "damn it, it is all because our country fellows don't like test cricket enough that no one talks about the drubbing we have got. And bcci will not care about it". The necessity to feel superior in some way to the others will make itself obvious in such questions - a fact you can easily construe from the results of this poll : 18 to 2. Change the question and ask people to vote for themselves and see what kind of responses you get. I bet it will not be so overwhelmingly anti test cricket. Trust me understanding the "voice" of your audience is greatly influenced by the kind of questions you ask than you can imagine.

^ Nirvanam, of course it will not be anti test cricket. we are a set of cricket fans and the affiliation to test cricket will naturally be higher than what is seen in the general public. The OP wanted to discuss how the majority of Indian public views test cricket. What you are saying is very different.

IMO...Test cricket decline within India has to do a lot with BCCI & their policies. They regularly holds Test in centers where people dont have interest. But IMO the biggest flaw has been that the pitches that are prepared for Test are just dont conclusive to attactive Test cricket. Dead wickets...leads to plenty of runs...but not high quality Test cricket. Fans dont want that. Not to mention a lot of hassalle these days to go to stadium. Make Test cricket exciting.....& compititive...people will follow.

However, I was trying to throw light on the fact that the OP was expecting an individual to answer for the rest of the nation rather what he thought is the rest of the nation's view on the matter. If the OP wanted to know exactly that then there is no issue. I was merely pointing out that if he wanted to know exactly that, he need not have even asked it because it is rather clear he will get answers based on perceived differentiating complexes that such questions tend to induce in individuals. Simple straight forward psychology it is, which most scientifically developed polls tend to avoid because they introduce an obvious bias into questions. In effect, you will end up knowing how many people feel they are different from the others and how many feel they are not, which in most cases will be heavily tilted towards individualism - something that u already know of.

Those people who think people in India do not follow Test cricket or like it are just as silly. If you live in India you will know that Test cricket has enough people supporting it. Now you may not find stadiums full in all centers however you will find cricinfo scorecard open in all offices right from the level of an intern to the CEO when a Test match is going on. You will also find people in chai tapris and shops asking you what's the score (just in case they are not watching it on their TVs) when you go there to buy something. Just as silly as people who think temporal events do not influence poll results. Either these people do not have an understanding of the nuances of poll / "voice" gathering studies or are just yapping off because they want to take an opposite view of the people who express their "silly" opinions.
