I was in my seven grade when my mom insisted that I watch and participate in such 'educational' programs and 'enhance' my personality. Little did she know that I'm destined for greater things. My school was a participant in the BQC, and my mom tried using undue influence to get me into the team. Even if as a non playing substitute. Luckily, the school didn't relent and my gk was (is) hopeless. They took a test in which I scored a massive 12/100. After that my mom bought me 3 gk books and a limca book of records, wishing I make it to the side next year... :mad: She would randomly ask me GK questions over dinner, which is one of the major reasons why I'm on the slimmer side today. "what is the capital of Brazil?" "who is the CM of Rajasthan?" " who authored.... ?" :whack: :poink: :(( Luckily, BQC, didn't invite our school the next year. This was one of the questions that they asked in the finals of that BQC competition: What geographical feature is common to Ulm, Vienna, Linz, Budapest and Belgrade? All these places lie on the banks of the Danube river. How many of you knew this? A girl from a school in Siliguri answered this. And I think there is something fundamentally wrong if a girl aged 12-13 can answer such random questions. Nothing to cheer about. Whats the point of such a quiz, which focuses on cramming irrelevant data in your head? Does it teach you to think? Does it add to your personality? I'd rather kids learn a language, sports, some dance forms, acting classes, pottery, gymnastics, chess etc and make them compete on those lines.
