I watched Rockstar just yesterday and thought it was very average. 5/10 maybe if that. It has had less than great reviews so I was not surprised but they could have made a good film of it and so was disappointing. Ranbir was good in a not well scripted role, but the ladys inability to act did not help. Her leap from feelings of dislike to like and then love for Ranbir was very unconvincing and abrupt, as was his ascent to fame and superstardom. They showed him playing his trade in clubs etc so working his way up to an extent but there is a sudden leap when he comes back from Prague the first time and there is a hoard of press for him. Plus his anger for the press and well pretty much everyone was not particularly well defined. They could have shown her being a good effect on him maybe whenever they are together, and then when they are apart he falls apart, perhaps fuelled by drugs. Particularly rapid downhill descent when she is dying and he commits suicide in the end. More convincing that way, as it happens it’s not a great film. Characterisation was poor, the idea that he has a fragile inner self could have been better put across. Only really came through when he was at the hospital at the end and talking to his manager guy This is ignoring quibbles like how people in Prague understand and can sing along to Hindi songs. Great music of course, Sadda haq and Nadaan Parindey the highlights.

^ Agree with most points there. The highlight of rockstar was Ranbir's ability to play the character's different shades to perfection, though I agree that the transition could have been better scripted. It was nice to see him walk out with both Filmfare awards for the film - critics and popular. He is definitely one of the superstars of the times to come.

Average movie from Imtiaz Ali. 1st hour is good until the Prague BS starts. Who the hell from India singing Hindi pop songs would have such a fanfare in Prague of all places. May be Dubai, or Singapore would have been better. 2 times the list of things to do gig works , 3rd time in Prague, it was a *groan* not again moment. I didn't care much for the ending as it never came close to heart before that. It was a OTT performance.

Great observations, I agree with almost all of 'em. The script was not well-structured, the editing was appalling and less said about the acting(?) skills of the girl, the better
