Number Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Pujara hasn't scored heavily but technically he is good , remember even Dravid was awful in south africa so can't rule out on the basis of one tour. Important thing about him , he looks like a player who can play marathon innings from his domestic record. 3 triple centuries in one season shows value he puts on his wicket. To average highly, this is one thing that test players need.

There was a time when averaging 50 was considered as hallmark of great batsman. Now everyone who can hold the bat has good average.
saneindian Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Even if we don't get a batsman who averages 50+, we would do well to have 4 middle order batsmen all averaging 45+ or a batting line up where all in the top 6 avergae 40+ and the keeper is also around the same average. Rohit, Rahane, Pujara, Kohli all are capable of being 45+ in tests and hopefully a couple of them will push it past the 50 mark as well.

True, the stats you posted shows that in the 80's only 4 guys had average of 50 and in the 90's only 4 as well.. and in the 2000's there are like 30 of them :nervous:
