Cricket Tragic Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 We've had a few over the years but who will be the next player from India to average 50+ in test cricket? I'm not including Gambhir in this (avg of 48) but I'm interested in the new generation who haven't played yet/have played only a handful of tests. Does anyone look good enough and would you bet on any of them? Please pick 1 player rather than 3 or 4 who might.

Rest of the guys I a not sure... * I seriously doubt in future we produce guys who can even show half the commitment and hunger which shown by Rahul,Sachin,Laxman and Ganguly...

TheYuvi02 Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Maybe Gambhir don't see anyone else, Don't shoot me but if we play lot of matches outside subcontinent then only Dravid and Sachin are capable of averaging 50, Sehwag's average will go down massively and Raina will be averaging less than 20.

Number Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Rohit can easily be one with his technique and talent , but I doubt his drive to succeed at test level so won't bet. Rahane's temperament at intl level is yet to be tested. Pujara is the one I can bet on. Hopefully a good indication will be there on it in the home series against WI.

TheYuvi02 Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Haven't seen much of Pujara, are people just basing this on his First class average because lot of Indian batsmen have 50 average in first class but aren't very good in tests. Pujara's test average is only 21 in 5 innings.

Averaging 50 wasn't like climbing mountain during last decade and I guess it will become even more easier for batsmen now. Anyone who can bat on flat tracks at home easily average 45+. Value of 50 has gone down considerably. 80s was like this 90s 2000s Any top order batsman who can represent India for next 10 year will have average around/above 50.

If people are banking on Kohli even though he looked totally uncomfortable wearing the whites then I think banking on Pujara is safer.

Sangakara averaging more than Sachin in 2000's :facepalm: shows you how bowling standards have declined and pitches being flatter, almost everything favoring batsmen these days where likes of Samaraweera averaging 50.

He is better than chanderpaul or smith.
