nballa Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 you need to have a proper wrist position and seam position and deliver the ball with enough back spin to generate swing, its not just 'conditions'. just need a better coach.

IKnowU Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 you need to have a proper wrist position and seam position and deliver the ball with enough back spin to generate swing' date=' its not just 'conditions'. just need a better coach.[/quote'] All this stuff you should be learning when your kid, not when you get to first class or international level. Thats the problem with majority of the players for India, they spend too much time getting their basics right because they never bothered or learnt properly from the beginning. Things like fielding, fitness are probably fit in to 90% of the players.
TheYuvi02 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 It is better then ours. Ours was never good to begin with. But we somehow managed to scrape by for the past decade through various trundlers. Plus we had Kumble and Harbhajan to pick up the slack back then. Now no Kumble, and left with darts. Plus the fact of injury prone Zaheer. Ishant is the only hope, but he is being ruined because he has no support. Only "phasst" bowlers we can pass as being decent pace wise are Ishant and Sreesanth. and he was bowling around 128 kph in england tests as well  all these bowlers become trundler soon after joining indian team
BERGKAMP Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Ishant Yadav Aaron Ojha / Ashwin This is the bowling attack I hope to see line up for us in tests soon.

Sooda Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 We have discussed this already. Our bowlers lack pace. We have to look for bowlers who have potential to pick wickets at the international level. The selectors must be aware of the strength of the bowlers, they should not pick the bowlers who does well only in domestic tournaments. Vinay kumar and mithun are prime examples for this case, they both lack pace but they pick wickets in the domestic tourneys and our selectors pick them without thinking abt their ability to perform at that international levels. They have been embarassing to say the least, Pace bowlers must be picked on the basis of pure pace. U can learn swing and seam but bowling pace is not an art which u can learn. It has to come naturally, and thats y i believe the bowlers who bowl at pace should picked. Varun aaron, umesh yadav must have been playing now, it doesnt matter if they go for runs becasue u know u can work with them and teach swing and seam. I remember wasim akram saying that he didnt knew abt swing or seam when he was picked for the pakistan team. All he used to do is run in and bowl quick, later on with the help of imran khan he learnt the art of swing bowling. But still he bowled quick with swing. I am really thinking of stop following cricket if they dont pick fast bowlers on the basis of pace.:(( Yadav is not quick enough to rely on pace alone to get wickets at international level. From what (little, I admit) I have seen of him he does not really have variety. Not sure how much of swing and seam he can learn
Rightarmfast Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 The reason is simple. All our military medium bowlers are part timers. Imagine this - can you imagine PK being a strike bowler for any team in the world ? Can you imagine RP and Munaf being the strike bowler for any team ? These bowlers can seriously be not even be in any other team, let alone make it to the playing XI. The series is already lost. I hope management understands that and tries to atleast experiment Varun for future series.

He got wicket of Morgan on a fast bouncer and he can swing the ball too. He has better Yorkers than any in India. A bowler who can touch 150K certainly needs attention and space in selection from selectors. He was selected for SA tour and I still don't figure out why was he overlooked for our next tour that was WI tour and instead Mithun was sent.

He certainly bowls as quick as varun, Learning swing and seam is not rocket science. It can be learnt quickly, but the basic criteria of picking a pace bowler should be just pace.
Rightarmfast Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 what happened to your Rehan Khan experience? Havent been able to meet him . Mom not well and now Rehan is not here for a few days here. I am still here this week and do hope to meet him and record.
Blue Panther Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Wasim akram talks abt swing: Indian bowlers bowl well in helpful conditions in England, Australia and South Africa, but they struggle in the subcontinent. Unlike Waqar Younis and You, who were actually better in the subcontinent than outside. What are they missing? The simple answer is: reverse swing. Either they don’t practise with the old ball or they don’t have confidence in it. It’s not rocket science. You take a ball, rough it up on one side on concrete, put it in your bag, and practise with it every day. It has got nothing to do with your wrist or your action. The ball will go with the shine. Simple as that, but you have to master it. It’s things that you find difficult as a bowler in matches that you have to practise more. Some people don’t, they just think line and length and forget about other things. I think that is where they are lacking. You have said earlier that the most important thing about reverse swing is how you look after the ball. What are the secrets of looking after the ball?I am not giving that away so easily. Not in a freebie interview! Everyone in our team knew what we had to do. And we even had to change Saqlain Mushtaq’s action. He used to rub the ball in a manner that used to soften the rough side. As a captain, I had to tell him, “Saqlain don’t do that.” In team meetings we used to go after him. That much detail? That much detail. Even if while throwing the ball from the outfield, if the rough side comes in touch with the grass, it will become soft. Sometimes bowlers used to stop the ball played back at them with their foot. If the boot spikes hit the rough side, it was Christmas. If it didn’t, you shone the ball and moved on. We just took our time. It all depended on the wicket, the weather, the dryness of the outfield. If the wicket is dead and the square grassy, it’s not going to happen. If one drop of sweat falls on it, the reverse swing won’t happen. And now with this rule to change the ball after 34 overs, you have taken reverse swing out of the one-day equation.
CG Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 swing and seam are always unpredictable you cant depend on them though it depends on how a pacer release the ball but other factors such as conditions also play a huge role but when the ball does swing and seam it causes the most problems for batters , the more reliable weapons for pacers are accuracy(normal line& length) , variations like bouncer /yorkers/slower balls speed bounce stamina /fitness a pace bowlers mentality most important of all tricking batsmen none of the ind bowlers have a enough of these skills . zak who has been the best bowler for ind for sometime had most of these skills excluding pace ,though he had the ability to generate pace ,but because he was not a very fit guy so he had to bowl with in himself in order to bowl long spells p.k has the most number of these skills among the rest having swing ,accuracy ,pacebowling mentality ,stamina and tricks to get wickets up his sleeve the thing he lacks are speed bounce and variations munaf only has accuracy rp used to swing but not any more so his skill set is almost 0 at the moment. ishant has bounce stamina, aggresive mentality and a bit of pace but does he have enough of the other skills ? sreesanth :(( no wonder the ind pacers sucks . Simply shouting and looking angry at your team mates does not mean he has pace bowling mentality ,his performances in india are so bad he has the worst averges 67 of all bowlers playing 10 matches or more in india and he did well in england in tests but he cannot be persisted when there is no help and he cannot bowl in the midddle overs or death.
Dravid_TheWall Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 We haven't selected the right bowlers for the right conditions. PK, when no swing, is not a wicket taker, although he can take control. Munaf had an off day. But the 3rd seamer spot, VK or RP are just plain crap. Missing the experience and skill of Zak and Nehra. Since Ishant was injured, we should have chosen Sreesanth. Experienced, played tests, takes wickets although very expensive but deserved a chance. I also don't know why Varun hasn't played...should have given a chance to Tyagi, Yadav too.
CG Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 ^^ that the down side of his personality but it is better than being mellow . as far as playing odi in india is considered all the indian pacers have struggled except for zak no indian fast bowlers have done well in india .nehra, sreesanth, munaf all average 30 or less in india.
1983-2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Indian ODI bowling in the past 12 months From 10 September 2010 till 09 September 2011 Most wickets: Munaf Patel - 33 @ 27.54 Zaheer Khan - 32 @ 21.59 Yuvraj Singh - 25 @ 27.44 R Ashwin - 22 @ 24.50 Harbhajan Singh - 17 @ 41.29 A Nehra - 13 @ 44.76 YK Pathan - 12 @ 40.08 A Mishra - 11 @ 18.09 P Kumar - 8 @ 44.87 http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;spanmin2=10+Sep+2010;spanval2=span;team=6;template=results;type=bowling Now we know who has been bowling well, it doesn't take much effort to use Cricinfo Statsguru once in a while:winky:
Cricket Tragic Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Inb4 rkt's post about how these stats don't mean anything and that Munaf should be dropped.
Tiger80 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Statistics only give you partial picture .If we check the statsguru then Munaf is better than Steyn, morkel,Broad ,anderson http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;spanmin1=08+sep+2010;spanval1=span;template=results;type=bowling Now which idiot will pick Munaf ahead of Steyn ,Even Mpofu is ahead of Steyn:hysterical:
veer Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Munaf isnt that bad.. he bowled beautifully in world cup.. didnt take lot of wickets but contained batsmen well..
