achilles Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 ^ Precisely my point. A person tipped to be the "new" Pollock plays like one odd game in 4 yrs?
Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I reserve my judgment till Philander performs the same outside of Africa. You would rarely find much better bowling conditions.
achilles Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 ^ Turns out he might be in the extraordinary league of Mohammad Sami :hmmm:
ganeshran Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Feel sorry for Ganesh' date=' shouldn't have bumped this one considering the number of posts he had to manage :([/quote'] Every thread about Pace bowling ends up about Sreesant :((
achilles Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Every thread about Pace bowling ends up about Sreesant :(( You have a great job of moderating ICF. I'm sure you enjoy it :cantstop:
Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 ^ Turns out he might be in the extraordinary league of Mohammad Sami :hmmm: :haha: It's a possibility yes.
Dravid_TheWall Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I will have to repost. Good to see this guy doing well but how willl he do in less green conditions? Also he has Steyn and Morkel to feed off. But he does look good. He provides a different dimension to SA attack. Much better than Tsotsobe.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Every thread about Pace bowling ends up about Sreesant :(( well, he's so talented that his name invariably creeps up whenever we discuss phaaast bowlers.
Sachin=GOD Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 He looks good but I'll wait and see a few more Test before starting comparisons.
ganeshran Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Saw an old pic of Philander on another site  Then: vs Now:
Dravid_TheWall Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 well' date=' he's so talented that his name invariably creeps up whenever we discuss phaaast bowlers.[/quote'] Don't derail thread but yes he is indeed one of our best bowlers ever.
Old guy Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 too early and to easy conditions for him and australia had crap batsmen sri lanka too would take 1-2 innings to get used to conditions
Cricket Tragic Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 It will be interesting to see how he does next summer in England.
rkt.india Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Yes' date=' his basic method is very sound and he gets good bounce as well. Can't believe this guy was being ignored for Tsotsobe! Steyn, Morkel and Philander is an excellent pace attack.[/quote'] They have another guy now in Merchant De Lange who is as quick as Morkal and Styen, very impressive, saw him the other day and was very impressive, beating the batsman for pace.
Old guy Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 They have another guy now in Merchant De Lange who is as quick as Morkal and Styen' date=' very impressive, saw him the other day and was very impressive, beating the batsman for pace.[/quote'] am i the only one who thinks morkel is little overrated? :P
rkt.india Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 am i the only one who thinks morkel is little overrated? :P Morkal is not overrated. It is all about form. He is looking out of rhythm right now. He is a perfect ally to Steyn and Philander otherwise. He looked more threatening consistently than even Steyn when India toured there last year. Remember, his bowling in the first test, one the of most hostile stuff I have ever seen from a fast bowler. (20/5)

(20/5)[/quote'] i know but he is no way near steyn and if conditions dont suit him he isnt that gr8 i think england would play him well this time im sure he is very good bowler but i would like to see him lead attack w/o steyn and then win match the only i will consider is near steyn
rkt.india Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 i know but he is no way near steyn and if conditions dont suit him he isnt that gr8 i think england would play him well this time im sure he is very good bowler but i would like to see him lead attack w/o steyn and then win match the only i will consider is near steyn Yes. He is not as good as Styen but as a combination they are as good as any. One has steep bounce and pace and other swings at pace. Morkel has a bit high average but his Strike rate is 53 which is very good.

Morkel has a bit high average but his Strike rate is 53 which is very good. strike of 53 in these conditions.. he good not very good.. but that does not tell the whole story he always keeps pressure..and beats the bat so many times but many people rate him equal to steyn thats why i said overrated he is very good bowler not taking anything away from him. he needs to bowl more spells like he bowled against india in first match
ShebbySB Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Will Philander be successful in the long run? I think he is going through a purple patch. He's a line & length bowler who hits the seam & move it both ways.He does not swing it much & not express at all. More of a medium-fast bowler who is tight in his line & length. He is getting success in helpful condition but how will he be able to replicate this on sub-continental pattas?...Well I'm not too sure.:giggle:
