Should being able to field competently be a prerequisite to getting into the ODI side?

  1. 1.

    • YES drop players who are unfit and cannot field to a competant level
    • NO fielding is not that important and their other skills are more valuable

Some of the fielding of Munaf and RP on the boundary today was a joke and probably a factor in us not winning. I think players who are not upto a decent standard of fielding and those who have poor fitness levels should not get into the India squad. It's one of the easiest parts of the game to improve on through simple hard work yet we are continually seeing mainly overweight trundlers who are costing us 15-20 runs with their 5hit fielding and lack of commitment.

I agree, we are losing close games due to poor fielding. It's not apparent unless you drop a catch or there is a terrible misfield, but we are giving opponents lots of free runs throughout. The game is changing fast, not just cricket, look at tennis and the top players are winning because of superior fitness. It's not the same as it was even 10 years back. We need to focus on fielding big time. Unless fitness is a major factor in selection players are not going to improve. Look at RP Singh, at his age as a pro player he has no reason to be such a liability on field.

It was weird why fielders weren't attacking the stumps for those in-circle singles - They had backup for their throws, so why weren't they attacking the stumps? [They can't let Jadeja's overthrow let them affect THAT much]

After the old generation lazy fielders are gone the youngsters need to keep in mind that **** fielding won't be tolerated.. munaf patel should be kicked immediately, it's not like he is a michael holding with the ball either

If you can contribute from your batting/bowling part decently , you will get your place in team. No need to be an excellent fielder , just okayish would do. If someone is rubbish while fielding , neither he is consistent with bat or ball then should be kicked out.

Agarkar is a pretty decent fielder' date='now tell :P[/quote'] he is better bowler than any we have now in ODI team. He is legend in ODIs if we compare him to the bowlers we have right now.
