According to me, he has the best bowling action of the three mentioned, perfect test match bowling action which he can repeat with consistency. Finn and Cummins have unpredictable actions and more rhythm bowler.[/quote'] In theory, theory and practice are same. In practice, they are different. Just because you have a beautiful rhythm, wrist position, buttock angles won't guarantee you success. Wasim Akram says, "Taking wickets is an art". You have to know where to bowl to the right batsmen.

Just because you have a beautiful rhythm, wrist position, buttock angles won't guarantee you success. Wasim Akram says, "Taking wickets is an art". You have to know where to bowl to the right batsmen. It is all about length and line you hit. You may not know the batsman, but if you hit right areas consistently, you will trouble any batsman. Consistent predictability, hitting right areas, works in test matches. It is not a rocket science. Pattinson has shown that he can take wickets. Bowling is all about consistency if you can bowl at 140K, then no batsmen will be comfortable against you. That is why I always say keep it simple and follow the basics.

I am not arguing against consistency - yes, it is good. But, you can't make an impression of someone by just technical details. Hilfenaus would've been a great bowler by now if that was the case.

I guess he depended a lot on swing that lead to his failure initially but now since his come back he has done well and then Hilfenhaus to has had some technical problems the way he swings the ball as his balls swings from his hand, not like Styen who swings it late.

Not everyone can swing the ball at will late . There's no 'technical' reason. Some can, some can't. All this is fine on paper - in practice some things are just not possible.

This is an art and if hilfenhaus can swing from the hand, certainly if he corrects his seam and grip, he will swing it in a better way. Other thing is, he has a round armish action which does not help in swinging late. HIlfy has grip like Pathan has and even Pathan does not swing it late like he used do when he first came. Swing is a science and technique not art.

panther Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 seam bowling>>>>>>swing bowling only a few bowler mastered seam bowling mcgrath of the top of my head. when the ball randomly changes direction not much you can do swing bowling easier to read imo.

But the thing with swing is u can not predict how much it's going to swing,eg waqar, wasim,Hadley they all were world class swing bowlers not to forget holding,Donald,Marshall, imran, kapil dev, botham, trueman and from new gen steyn,Zak,Asif,Anderson all are swing bowlers with pace, accuracy and swing, which is very important,Finn is a mixture of McGrath and Ambrose ,accuracy of McGrath and pace and bounce of Ambrose like I said earlier his test however would be in unfavourable conditions.

rkt.india Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Does PK swing it from the hand? No, but PK is too slow.
Crookbond Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Fast, but not so furious http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/current/story/588172.html This recognition - and acceptance - tells you something about the man. Finn may be a terrifying prospect on the pitch, with his ability to touch 90mph while trampolining the ball at batsmen from a vantage point of over 6ft 7in, but he is an affable, even sweet-natured, presence off it. One day he may possess a glowering demeanour to match Curtly Ambrose or Allan Donald but for now he fiddles distractedly with the winding mechanism of his watch while talking about his much-discussed dead-ball problem, and offers a playful apology when absently knocking a dictaphone on the table in front of him.
ChanaLal Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 In theory, theory and practice are same. In practice, they are different. Just because you have a beautiful rhythm, wrist position, buttock angles won't guarantee you success. Wasim Akram says, "Taking wickets is an art". You have to know where to bowl to the right batsmen. That still doesn't guarantee you success either. Knowing where to bowl to batsmen is no good if you cannot consistently bowl it there with pace and control. I am sure every bowler knows where he should be bowling. Surprised Akram said this as it implies coaching (as he is in now) is more about knowing where to bowl rather than how you bowl it there. We all know in batting as an example, where we are trying to hit the ball but getting it there is what counts.

I agree with you - there are two aspects; knowing where to bowl and bowling where you should bowl. The former comes by brains while the latter comes via practice. Coming to your part of "every bowler knows where he should be bowling" - that's not quite true. A lot of bowlers do not know the art of when to bowl where. Example - Ishant "Unlucky" Sharma.
