Aaku Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Tillakaratne Dilshan (SL), Virender Sehwag (Ind), Kumar Sangakkara (SL), AB de Villiers (SA), Shane Watson (Aus), Yuvraj Singh (Ind), MS Dhoni (Ind, wicketkeeper/captain), Graeme Swann (Eng), Umar Gul (Pak), Dale Steyn (SA), Zaheer Khan (Ind), 12th Man - Lasith Malinga (SL). 'Dhobi' leading the team ? whaaa :omg: :icflove::icflove: Dhoni leads ICC ODI team of the year; Sachin misses out London: India captain MS Dhoni was also chosen as the skipper of the ICC ODI team of the year in a list of eleven players that included four Indians. Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir however failed to make it to the list despite being nominated for ODI player of the year award. Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan are the other Indian players who have made it to the list under Dhoni. While Umar Gul is the only player from Pakistan, three Sri Lanka players - Kumar Sangakkara, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Lasith Malinga as the 12th man - complete the team from the sub-continent. "The ODI team of the year reflects the success of India with four players selected - Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, M S Dhoni and Zaheer Khan. Yuvraj was, of course, the player of the tournament and MS Dhoni, the man of the match in the final, whilst fellow finalists Sri Lanka has three players in the side," said Clive Lloyd who headed the specially appointed selection panel chosen to select the team. The panel also included other greats like former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas, former England captain Mike Gatting, former New Zealand bowler Danny Morrison and former South African bowler Paul Adams http://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/news/item/178321-dhoni-leads-icc-odi-team-of-the-year-sachin-misses-out
ganeshran Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 What is the point of releasing such teams? :dontknow:
saneindian Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Strange, they nominated GG for ODI player of the year and yet he isn't there in the ODI 11!
gaurav92 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 I would have Lasith in the regular XI ahead of Gul. Sachin misses out coz he hasn't played much ODI Cricket this year. But whatever little he has played, he has been magnificent My XI would be : Sachin Watson Gambhir © Sangakkara (w/k) Jayawardena De Villiers (vc) Raina Swann Zak Steyn Lasith
Sachinism Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Amla? How does he not make the team?
J P K Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 viru`s batting in odi is as good as dhoni in test
Trichromatic Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Gauti and Amla should be in the team. I would go for Ajmal ahead of Swann. Gul over Malinga because he can bowl with both new and old ball.
Cricket Tragic Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Mods, can we have 1 thread for the test/ODI teams of the year? http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=270927&highlight=test+team+year
Sachinism Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Keep them separate for now, so the two different formats can be discussed. As I'm sure there will be a lot of disagreements on the team ICC selected
Cricket Tragic Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Alright.... Btw, just read this. ESPNcricinfo: Ijaz Butt to head of ICC's ODI team of the year jury: “Clive, I have only question: why only one person from Pakistan?" #ICCawards
Trichromatic Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 ^ Australia - No 1 Odi team and only 1 player.
ganeshran Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 The only other Pak player who could have made it was Ajmal over Swann.
Cricket Tragic Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Dilshan averaged 35 and he gets in while Amla/Gambhir with an average of 60 don't.
Cricket Tragic Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 I guess they've picked Dilshan because they've given WC performances more importance. GG should have been there either way.
