Hockey might be 2nd nature but give me a break! I wish our cricketers would stand up, make a pool and distribute it
ganeshran Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 25 lakh is more like it. Cricketers earn 5-6 lakhs per international match. 25000 rupees for winning a trophy is pathetic
Lurker Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Shouldnt surprise really. Hockey has been given 3rd class status by Administrators, fans and media since Kingdom come. 25K per player? Thats beyond shameful really.
gaurav92 Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Need to pay them in lackhs now, they did really well to beat Pakistan, they deserve more :isalute: IIRC, they went to strike when they were awarded very less prize in 2007 compared to what India received after the T20 WC victory.

Even unknown players for JPL earned more for doing nothing. Not surprising, but disappointing for sure.

Sachin=GOD Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Hockey India (HI) officials say that because of the extremely limited financial resources of HI they are unable to pay any more than 25000 each even though they would like to pay more. Given the fact that HI has been battling controversies one after the other and hockey's popularity and funding have been falling constantly, I wouldn't be surprised if these officials were speaking the truth for once.

Lord Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 although I dont support the players stand.its the pride of prize that matters not money.if they r getting money for playing thats all that matters.nobody is under any obligation to give additional money for winning.its thier job anyway to play.nobody penalises wen they lose
Sidhoni Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 And add to the fact hey did not even have proper shoes to play with.

To be fair, this is equivalent to winning the Asia cup for cricket. Who cares who wins it ?

If offering 25K is considered disrespect, then rejecting the prize is even more disrespectful. Players should play for the passion of the game, if the monetary or any other matters affect future results - then hockey deserves to die. As for comparing with Cricket, if they consider themselves better athlete, then they have every right to compete with the 'incompetent' cricketers.

What are your thoughts on making cricket an amateur game? The throwback to 30s era? And how many modern day cricket players you think will entertain that?
gaurav92 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 To be fair' date=' this is equivalent to winning the Asia cup for cricket. Who cares who wins it ?[/quote'] To be fair Indian Cricketers earn a lot in many other things, and the only source of income for the hockey players are tournaments like these. If we don't pay them what they deserve, I don't think many would love to play it. Since it is a national sport, the federation must make sure that the payrolls are fair. They can at least ensure decent income for the players who work so hard to make our country proud :isalute: If we are not going to support them, then who will ?
