Raghav_12 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Was hearing one interview of Venkatesh Prasad and felt this guy has done enough after retirement to improve on the reputation he has in his playing days, mainly with help of the work he did as bowling coach on Indian team. If you think of it there are quite a few players like that around. 1. Ravi Shastri - Eventually became a tier 1 commentator. As a player he was never in top league. 2. Andy Flower - Had good reputation as player as well but his stint as coach to Poms has further improved his reputation. 3. Richie Benaud - He is more likely to be remembered as legendary commentator than a leg-spinner. Players who damaged their reputation - 1. Greg Chappell - No need to explain. He failed in almost everything which he took after retiring. 2. Javed Miandad - Not that he had very good reputation during his playing days, but his too often run-ins with PCB have further tarnished his image. You can add to this list further.
ganeshran Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Are we talking about temporary retirements and bans too :hmmm:
ganeshran Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Gary Kirsten's reputation went up after he retired.
Raghav_12 Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 Gary Kirsten's reputation went up after he retired. Yeah, actually.
mishra Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Gary Kirsten's reputation went up after he retired. After he retired as a player as well as a coach Team India
mishra Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 2. Javed Miandad - Not that he had very good reputation during his playing days, but his too often run-ins with PCB have further tarnished his image. +(Dawood ibrahim daughter Mahrukh Ibrahim's engagement with Junaid Miandad means he can never come to India, Greatest cricketing nation

Number Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 sanath jayasuriya was one of the best ODI cricketers in his time. but as a commentator he is embarrassing. Can't speak properly. Mixes English with Sinhalese. Read somewhere that he said "You can see the puss coming out of the wicket" puss is dust in Sinhalese.
maniac Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Will Azhar count as someone who has enhanced his reputation since from a matchfixer/Traitor he bacame just another useless politician? On a different note Siddhu who was never talked about or never got the hype at all despite being a very important part of the Indian team throughout the late 80's till end of 90's all of a sudden become a pop-culture icon-Good or Bad decide for yourself??? Andrew Symonds-Looks a sad shadow of his former self since he quit international cricket. Arun Lal/L.Siva-1 Mediocre player and the other a player who threw it all away ...In the old days this would have been a tragic story but these 2 re-invented themselves as experts despite being a pain for the listener but still seem to have better reputation now than their playing days. Srinath-People recognise his contribution more now than when he was actually in the team and also a well respected match refree Imran Khan-One of the greatest allrounders of all time but now a joke of a politician
