I don't know what the peoples' expectations were at the start, but he is a good batsman. His stock will rise if he makes the Aussies a force again as captain, with sparser resources than his predecessors.

Will it be a fair assessment of his career to say that while he has been successful, he hasn't completely lived up to the expectations people had at the start of his career? Yeah, maybe a little bit that way. However, this is an important part of his career. He is captain now and he can live up to the hype in this moment. Since becoming captain his form has been fantastic.

ch1234 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Congrats for Century... Aussies had much expectation in him at the start of career.. They even dropped Lehmann to include him in the team.. But as a whole, he has a test batsman is bit disapoointing till now (like K.P.)

ganeshran Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Steyn's skirmish with Clarke Did anyone see Steyn's first over against Clarke. Beautiful bowling and had Clarke get in some akward positions. Maybe went over the top with the sledging and aggressively throwing the ball back at the batsman.

And also agreed that it was unnecessary to throw the ball at the batsmen. Ps: Clarke's scoring rate was ridiculous after that! Definitely the best knock that he has played and might be the best that he ever plays.
