Yadav to Angelo Mathews - YouTube[/ame] [ame=
Yadav - Irani Cup - 2011/2012 (10 over spell) - YouTube[/ame] Watch both the videos and try and differentiate how his bowling action has changed from then. I had read that he worked with his bowling coach on his bowling action and his landing. He was not hitting the right line and was going down most of the time in IPL4 and other matches before that as well. He used to get less movement off the deck and in the air. But as I am saying the changes he made in his bowling, though they are not huge, but a little change can make a huge impact in bowling.as you can see in first video of an IPL match. He is bowling pretty wide and if you stop the video at the delivery stride, you will find a SIDE-ON bowling action. Notice his hand position while going and pdelivering the ball. He is bowling very wide of the crease and most of the balls are coming into the batsman and that is why when his action was completing right, balls were going down the long more often, though pace is good with that action too. But the changes he did mainly corrected his lines and movement. He is coming more close to the stumps and is not as side-on as he was before. He is stays more straighter now and ball is coming in more straight line rather than with the angle that used to come before and batsmen used to play him through the leg side with the angle. Short balls are more directed towards batsman's body. Notice his right hand's position in his bowling action as he takes it up to his shoulder. Both videos have different right hand position. The new video of Irani trophy, you can see, he is getting more movement off the pitch away from the batsman which is the most dangerous delivery for a batsman and remember this was a flat track. He has definitely worked on it so that he can get more movement. The best thing is he has very relaxed bowling approach. Feedback appreciated.

Indeed, he had admitted that there have been changed made to his action, by subroto( coach ). He looks confident, and hope he continue with the same action in any format he plays. In T20 specially bowlers lose their action because they try lot of different things when they get hammered. But Umesh has to be tried in test matches, where he can continue with the same action and practice on it for long periods.

The changes are good specially with the relaxed approach and delivery stride. But he is not using his non-bowling arm. I remember Imran Khan once saying that his non-bowling arm was also his weapon. Umesh's non-bowling arm still is not thudding across as some of the great bowlers' did. Something o work upon IMO, to give him more rhythm.

They are using their non-bowling arm quite well in their bowling. It is not falling too early as well like in Abhimanyu Mithun's case or bowling with only one hand like in Gavin Tong's case. L Shivaramakrishnan talks about non-bowling arm with every bowlers. They are bowlers, not sprinters and you would not say they should run like a sprinter. Run-up should be controlled which they have.

Overall he seems to have a much more whippier action not only from his shoulder like earlier on also coming from his back, reminds me abit of Srinath , although not the entire action but the shoulder and back rotation with his new action.I saw a big improvement, he seems to generate all the pace without a big or fast approach, might get wickets with ocassional deliveries surprising the batsmen evenn on flat decks, also very impressed with his seam position and out swing.I would have him in the team ahead of VK, PK, MITHUN,UNADKAT,ARAVIND,RP ANY DAY.THE BEST THING IS HE HAS SHOWN AN ABILITY TO LEARN IMPROVE, if he works more on his stamina , fitness, he will be a good understudy to Zaheer, even Zaheer mentioned him in a recent interview as a talented bowler.

He gave you a keyboard w/o a space bar it seems. It gets tough to read you points without any spacings

No offence taken ' date=' yes I am guilty, typing is cumbersome , especially when u r relaxing after a hard day art work, that too involves computers lol.[/quote'] It's the same for me as well. But the point is, you might as well be making a very good point but it goes unread,or atleast I am not able to read it, because of lack of spaces.

^ And btw' date=' I liked the way you took my point. Some of the keyboard warriors might have hurled a number of finger smileys on me for what I had said.[/quote'] Will keep that in mind, at least you don't have to read my writing like my colleagues do lol.

Thx rkt. Maybe his stress fracture caused him to change his bowling action little bit to suit his body. Whatever it is...!!! i am really happy that he still bowls at pace without much difficulty.

No stress fracture has nothing to do with it because stress fracture happened in 2009 before IPL 2 in SA. After that he has played 2 IPL and 2 FC seasons. His bowling action looked changed this year only after IPL.

Good post. I am not an expert on bio-mechanics but it does seem like a front arm action for tallish players generates more pace unless one has a slinging action to be able to push the bowling arm as back as possible. How tall is Umesh Yadav?

Agreed to what you said. But if you look across, most of the fast bowlers made good use of their non bowling arms. Someone like Wasim Akram, Imran Khan or aCurtly Ambrose had a real whip to their non-bowling arm specially Wasim.

Yadav is fine according to me. Varun has some problems in this regard.

It was for that point that I had quoted Imran Khan, the way he used to whip the non-bowling arm during the stride.

Without that, they could not have bowl 140+ that consistently.

i agree Varun does not utilise the non bolwing arm at all and He shud improve on it., it will help him increase pace.
