Is Rahane too slow for LOI cricket?

So we'll decide who can play as an ODI opener on the basis of his finishing in IPL. :haha:
And on the basis of their uttering MC BC and looking angry and tough! :giggle:

This is why we need players like Virat' date=' Raina, or Rohit who s got the attitude and aggression for LOI cricket. I am afraid Rahane is just too sweet in his approach.[/quote'] Can't really blame him for everything can you? As an opener he did his job, yes he should've finished it but a known finisher like Hodge struggled against Morkel as well, that 3 run over cost them. Not Rahane.

This thread was opened few months back when he played brilliantly in England and slowed down when he was playing in India. Its nothing new. This is not the first time he s been accused of playing slow.

No he is not slow. He takes time to get settle and this is his approach towards his play.
And this is exactly what makes him slow. And it's not as if after getting his eye in he transforms into Viv Richards and starts scoring like Kohli.

I think if Rahane needs to play ODI's he has to open. Currently, we have enough people vying for that slot. Gautam "I want to be captain" Gambhir Virender "Injury" Sehwag Sachin "Summer Vacation" Tendulkar

Rahane should be given a go in the Tests else we will make the same mistake we made with Murali Vijay and Rohit Sharma. Rahane averages in 60s just like Rohit in FC cricket and only averages in mid 30s in List A just like Rohit. The parallels are too similar not to be missed. On the other hand we have Ishank Jaggi who averages 40 in FC cricket but 54 in List A over 35 games :omg: To me it's clear that if I have to go to someone in odis it should be Jaggi not Rohit or Rahane. Similarly for Tests Rahane & Rohit need to be given a chance before others.

You can't pick people on averages alone. If one did that, the Indian team would be filled with the likes of Anustup Majumdar, whose (SR x LOI average) is higher than even Jaggi's. And by the same logic, Gary Ballance would be one of the greatest ODI batsmen for England/Zimbabwe. Rahane did terribly against a not-so-good WI 'A' attack. He looks more and more like an Ajay Sharma and lesser like a Vijay Merchant. (both these guys averaged insanely high in FC)
