We in India, have been blessed with many such colourful characters. And Bollywood, as is expected from it, hasn't left any stone un-turned when it comes to capturing the essence of taporism. Lets use this thread to list out, and debate about our favourite tapori characters. Mind you, we shouldn't confuse the art of being a tapori with out right thuggery ( a la all those B grade Mithun movies) or incessant screaming ( Sunny Deol flicks). Taporis have a class of their own. They never have any work, and always have a punchline to deliver in a slick Bambaiya accent , be it before they beat up a villain or after singing a song. Who among these is the biggest Bollywood Tapori: 1) Amir Khan's Munna from Rangeela [ame= [/ame] The quintessential tapori. Yellow shirt and trousers. Top few bottoms open. 20 Rs sungalsses. Bags himself a chick way out of his league. Is not ashamed of being his usual self even in a 5 star eatery. Here is another scene from the same movie. [ame= [/ame] 2) Salman Khan in the movie Judwaa Salman has a double role in this movie. One charatcter is a goodie goodie US returned NRI and the other is tapori. Anthony Gonzalves brings a certain elan to the art of being a Tapori. From standing in front of a mirror and dressing his own wound to standing on deserted roads late in the night doing nothing, while the villain is running with a huge cache of smuggled gold. The Outsider Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Aamir Khan was unbearable in Rangeela. Anil Kapoor's role in Tezaab (though not in the comic angle this thread seems to be in) was strong. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi in Munnabhai.

You are the first person I've come across who didn't like Aamir Khan in Rangeela. Anil Kapoor's role in Tezaab (though not in the comic angle this thread seems to be in) was strong. I forgot Anil Kapoor. Even in Ram Lakhan he has some wonderfully tapori scenes and songs. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi in Munnabhai. They weren't taporis in the strict sense of the word. They were actual gangsters. And I found those characters larger than life. Something I wouldn't say about Aamir Khan in Rangeela or Anil Kapoor in Ram Lakhan.

But I just find Aamir Khan to be terribly limited actor in the sense of being too methodical, which really hampered that performance. They weren't taporis in the strict sense of the word. They were actual gangsters. And I found those characters larger than life. Something I wouldn't say about Aamir Khan in Rangeela or Anil Kapoor in Ram Lakhan. Well, they weren't gangsters in the strict sense either. You are right about the larger than life part, but it's difficult to find life like characters in cinema. Aamir khan was the caricature of a tapori..Too Larger than life and I found his hamming terrible in Rangeela

That was sarcastic - Guddu and Ram Jaane compete for my 3rd worst Shahrukh Khan movie after the clear favorites Mohabbatein and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Jackie Shroff in Hero. As much as I dislike Subhash Ghai movies, got to admit Jackie Shroff was really good in this one. Not sure, if it's also by Subhash Ghai, but I really liked Yudh as well - going off tapori topic here.
