Great Indian batting slide

The title was the signature of one of the posters here. What is wrong with the performance of our test batting line up right from the England tour? Some occasional flashes of brilliance seem to be surrounded by abject collapses.

Its not just the England tour - they were mediocre in WI too, just that the WI batsmen were even worse in that series. In fact the last time they reached 400 in a Test innings was back in December last year. But 150/7 against the no.7 team at home is a new low altogether.

Averages in 2011: Dravid 59 Sachin 44 Gambhir 33 Laxman 31 Yuvraj 31 Raina 25 Dhoni 22 Sehwag 17 Can't remember when our batting was last this dreadful, collectively

Sachin and Laxman in poor form and no match practise. They should have played a couple of domestic matches and regained some form before coming back straight into the team. Yuvi not good for test cricket. Sehwag and Gambhir got out freakishly. Its time we give the likes of Pujara Rahane Rohit chances in the test team. Dhoni going through a torrid time in test cricket

Match practice is key..You cannot carry your arses directly to a Test match without playing a single match in the season..You can spend months practicing on nets, but some match practice is a must..

Lack of match practice ahead of tests + they somehow seem to have lost the patience to build a test innings, it seems they almost want to score 4-5 rpo even in tests. No wonder we collapsed. Sehwag, Yuvraj got out trying to hit when already going at around 5 rpo.

Sehwag and Yuvraj are seniors. They shouldn't be trying to hit every ball for 444 and 6666. To me new gen are Raina, Rohit, Virat, Puraja etc.

We are cramming too many matches together. Even the test players arent getting domestic match practice at all. BCCI should stop treating players like machines :headshake:

but IPL/CL are important tournaments so even if these faltu series' are overlooked, who cares. IPL toh chal rahi hai naa :two_thumbs_up: :((

The greed/money has blinded BCCI's eyes. Players aren't worried as well as the BCCI wants players to give importance to these tournaments as well. So yeah unless we fall drastically in test or another big shake up in Aussie tour, things will remain same.

I have said this earlier that Indian batting wasn't in good form even before WI series. Batting form of most of our batsmen was going down and fans didn't notice it because of unbelievable renaissance of SRT and the amazing days of test rank # 1. This is nothing new. Whenever SRT performs well, most of the fans hardly notice failures of other batsmen. This batting lineup struggled against NZ, SA, England etc. Now we are noticing it because SRT is not performing and we are losing matches. I bet if we were still saving matches and SRT was doing well, this would not looked like a big issue. We haven't found replacement for no 6 batsman yet. Batting was on downward path for long time and now we can feel it. Last 20 months (since 1 Mar 2010) indbatting.jpg Sehwag, Dravid, Gambhir, Dhoni, Raina etc were in ordinary form for long time.

I understand the preference of players to play in these tournaments but the calendar should be desiged including IPL/CL and not around them. The number of days a player plays international/domestic/IPL should be limited to limit player fatigue and so that everyone remains in proper touch.

IPL / CL is way forward we agree or Not...u cant rstrict number of playing days etc...thats not professional .. why a 3 Match test series against Windies 1 or 2 test matches , 3 one day and 2 T20 matches should have enough....
