We just have to find a replacement for him because he won't play forever and seeing the current state of our pacers, the Indian team would struggle very badly without him. Also, now Zaheer needs to conserve his body and play only the important series' to prolong his Test career.

Now it's time to look beyond him, he will be lucky to play for one more year and even there is no guarantee he wont break down during a match and leave us with one bowler less
MCcricket Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Ishant Sharma is the only constant if you take Zaheer out of the picture, Praveen Kumar is reliant on conditions, RP not fit or at his best, Munaf cannot serve mixed bag of 4 slow balls, 1@ 136, 1@ 138 every over, this is test cricket , you have to try to bowl the bastmen out every ball, fitness in test and his role should be spearhead not a defensive bowler.Sreesanth doesn't have the stamina for test cricket or accuracy in one dayers.Irfan at his best an automatic choice,Varun Aaron for his pace,Manpreet Gony , Vrv Singh, Pankaj Singh, Sudeep Tyagi , Umesh yadav, these bowlers should be in the frame and given chances, taking into account either their class, pace, experience, maybe one or two can step up. Saurav I think will play some kinda role as a selector , administrator , so he has to be diplomatic plus he is a gentleman, I think he was the best capatain , thinker and realised potential and talent in players and made the players aware we could be world beaters, only blemish , not forcing a follow on in the test India could've won, also his fielding,vouching for Greg Chappel, right from Zaheer, Yuvraj , Harbhajan,Laxman, Nehra, Kaif, dravid-keeper-batsmen, sehwag,everyone did well under him and blossomed.

But I'll try and help the game, and young cricketers, to the best of my ability. Thats what I want & I think most of the Indian fans want Ganguly to get involved in the future of Indian cricket. Far too long BCCI is idiots politician.....Now with Kumble (hopefully guys like Srinath, Dravid after his retirement from Cricket) & Ganguly.....Cricket administration can be taken more smartly & seriously.

Zaheer, though, is keeping is fingers crossed for a strong return during the Australia tour. Zaheer was in the Capital on Monday to receive his Arjuna Award from Union sports minister Ajay Maken. The left-arm seamer is expected to resume his long rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) from Wednesday. "I've already started training and the second phase of my rehab has started. What I need to do right now is to build some strength in the ankle. I'm not rushing and I hope to come back strongly into the team. I'm taking one day at a time and not setting targets. My progress has been slow but positive," Zaheer said while thanking the sports ministry for honouring him. "To start bowling, I have to regain full strength in my ankle. Then I might play a few club matches or first-class games." The national selection committee is hoping Zaheer will recover full fitness before the West Indies Test series at home or just before the Australia tour. Zaheer admitted missing out in England had been frustrating, especially since the team was so dependent on him. "It's frustrating not to play at the highest level. But you can only control the controllables and be patient. I don't think the over-dependence on me adds to the pressure. It feels good to go to sleep with this kind of expectation. I enjoy responsibility," Zaheer said. On the selection committee's decision to axe off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer said: "Harbhajan has put in great performances for the country. I'm sure he'll be back soon as he is too good a player to be left out. He has a lot of fire in him and is a strong character." Zaheer also backed India's new crop of rookie pacers to deliver in his absence. "I haven't seen a lot of them due to my international commitments but I've seen some talented pacers in the IPL. I have worked with Umesh (Yadav) when he was with the Indian team in South Africa. He is talented. SI posted about the games that he could potentially play before the tour. Absolutely, no point in carrying a half-fit Zaheer. The previous two tours he broke down between the series. It adds to a lot of burden on the bowling department.

The Australians are using Ryan Harris only for tests even though he wants to play all formats and his ODI record is ridiculously good.

Sadly nothing like that happned this time around in england :-(([/quote'] In 2003, he played the first match at Brisbane and led India to bowl Australia out under 350 after they finished the first day for about 260/2. He didn't play the 2nd Test at Adelaide which India won (Rahul Dravid test). He came back in the 3rd Test match at Melbourne and bowled in only the first innings. He has had the reputation for breaking down in the middle of the series. Disappointing.

I have heard these so-called experienced bowlers saying many times that they understand their bodies and know their limitations. I wonder why then does this type of thing happen mid-game of all times!!! The team physio, the board fitness clearance process and the player himself are all to blame for such fiasco when it happens again and again. Come on Zak, international cricket needs you..... buck up and good luck!
MCcricket Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Zaheer will be back for sure , this is not a back injury , he is smart about his body and his fintness levels have been good after he came from his county stint, he will play for India for a couple of years , there is cricket left in him , he is at his peak , also his pace is good. India needs to groom young bowlers, he wont be forever, Ishant gained alot from him ,lets get the Varun , Umesh , Tyagi,Parmeswaram, Suyal, Shukla's to play and learn with him.
