But I guess you included him because you got to see only later part of his career when he was really prolific or may be you just revisited his that innings of 154. In my opinion Justin Langer and Gary Kirsten, and also Mark taylor, do have equal claim to that spot as does Gooch. But if you have watched Gavaskar, then you would have watched Greenidge as well. And Gooch ahead of Greenidge...hmmmm

And Gooch ahead of Greenidge...hmmmm Fair point, but Greenidge's peak days were before I really started watching so probably he did not cross my mind when I was coming up with the list. But yeah, I agree Greenidge was better than Gooch overall. Possibly, Gooch's superb run in the late 80s to early 90s made me go for him. Kirsten, Slater, and Sehwag would be other strong contenders for me.
Old guy Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 what hayden was better than sehwag he was good in all conditions maybe not all but he was brilliant in south africa ,india,england (except 1 series form what i remember) sehwag when tours outside hasnt really been fit or consistent in odis hayden never fullfiled his potential it was only that world cup where he showed his full form

I do consider Lara a better batsman than Waugh, but for me picking an XI is not always just picking the best players. In my team I have Richards, Tendulkar, and Gilchrist in the middle order and would like to have someone like Waugh to provide stability to the middle order. Similarly, one could argue for the inclusion of Imran over Akram given the batting upside of Imran given that the team has one less specialist batsman, but for a balanced attack I would go for a left arm bowler. Just different ways to think about it - it's an exercise in futility anyways.
