Started watching cricket regularly mainly from the 90s but have vague memory of those who played in the late 80s so .... Tests: - Gavaskar - Sehwag (Gooch a strong contender as well but not as good as Sehwag against spin. The incredible SR does it for Sehwag too) - IVAR (though he wasn't at his destructive best when I saw a few games but still the master blaster) - Lara (gets 375, someone breaks it, scores 400! .... 501* in FC) - Tendulkar - Steve Waugh / Martin Crowe / .... (too many options, may be I will pretend to have watched Sobers play) - Gilly - Hadlee - Marshall - Warne - Ambrose (for ability to win games on his own when in flow) or Akram (for reverse swing, that ball to Croft)

Akram over Ambrose Donald and Waqar??

Waqar was over-rated and could be taken apart as Jadeja showed in 96 Q/F. He had pace and yorkers but nt the variety like Akram had. And I am not picking Akram over Ambrose, it's just that in the batting order Akram will come before Ambrose. As for Donald, wanted to opt for a left handed seamer for variety and Donald really didn't bring anyting extra which Akram didn't already. As for Anwar facing better bowlers surely an average of 50+ with a S/R of 80 as an opener trumps a player averaging 42 or thereabouts.
