Lord
he needed to be dropped for his own good.needs to be dropped from ODIs too he'll comeback I think Link to comment
CG
It was written in his face after the last odi. Link to comment
vamos_rafa
Made a lot of sense to have dropped him. Should come back fresher now. Link to comment
CG
Yeah makes sense dropping a player in tests after odi series performances.Thats the way it works in india unfortunately. Link to comment
vamos_rafa
^ As If he set the world on fire in the tests. For an opener, not scoring 100 for 3+ years is paltry to the core. Link to comment

King Khan
IMO aggresive batting aint meant for him. Overdoing something what you aint good at eventually proved him wrong, although its very much required to survive in LOIs and IPL. I think he will be back though, as India dont need any attacking opener anymore, but a technically sound conservative cool headed performer is much prefered. I think he being over confident in shot selections most of the time falls him in mediocre standard atm. He was needed this break to find his composer. Link to comment
wanted_desi
It is good for him, he will have some time off to work on his weakness. I am sure he will come back, given VIjay and Dhawan are just :haha: Link to comment
Pagalpanti
He was called the 2nd wall of India after NZ tour iirc :((. He just doesn't seem to settle down, even when he's past 30-40 runs in last 3 years, he's always looked edgy. Link to comment
saneindian
Now that Gambhir's lost his spot, irrespective of how he does in the India A match vs Aus, he should not be recalled. Needs some time away from the national side to work on the technical flaws. With a few A tours coming up ( NZ and WI at home, SA away) could even be asked to lead those sides Link to comment
Spiderguy252
Should he ever be recalled? He's 30+ now. Link to comment
vamos_rafa
Should he ever be recalled? He's 30+ now. Around 30 is the best time in a batsman's career. Make no mistake, once Gambhir solves his problems, he is of prime importance for the team. Link to comment
saneindian
GG did very well in SA and NZ last time we toured (our next two away tours are SA and NZ) and with Sehwag in decline, it's a must for us to have a Gauti back in good form. SO don't think his test career is over. If sources are to be believed, the idea is to give Gambhir some break so that he could regain some confidence. "He is a quality player but his form is a concern for the team. There's too much focus on his form. Although he is getting starts, he is unable to convert them into big scores. He also looks a bit short on confidence. The break will help him work on his flaws and come out a better and confident player," a BCCI official, who doesn't wish to be named, told TOI. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournament/australia-in-india-2013/top-stories/Selectors-feel-break-will-help-Gautam-Gambhir/articleshow/18438397.cms Link to comment

Gracysmith
Question for anyone who would like to share their opinion. Recently I've heard lots of commentary, theories etc "India should play five specialist bowlers" "Yuvraj should be dropped for Raina" "Yusaf is being wasted play Raina instead" etc. I've never heard anyone talk about dropping Ghambhir for either a fifth specalist bowler or to bring on Raina. For the last year I have not been impressed with Ghambhir at all. His technique is great but as a #3 I'd expect much more from him. I know a major reason they play him is cause he is a lefty but so is Raina as well. Id suggest moving Kholi to #3 since he is India's most reliable anchor and slotting Raina who can part time bowl and is a much better fielder at 6. All Ghambhir really brings to India is batting and that being said his strike rate is usually mediocre when it really matters. Revised Squad Sehwag Sachin Kholi Yuvraj Dhoni Raina Pathan Harbhajan Z Khan Ashwin/Chawla Patel Comments? No doubt,,,Gambhir is one of the best players of spin in the Indian cricket team... shortbread
No doubt' date=',,Gambhir is one of the best players of spin in the Indian cricket team...[/quote'] He is an opener whos struggling against any half decent quickie, no technique, out of form....... WTF will 'being a player of spin' be of any use when he hardly survives 10 overs!!! Link to comment

kubrickian
He has to go to county cricket and play a season there. That's the only way he can rectify the technical flaws which have crept into this batting. Indian pitches are way too flat and first class bowlers are not attacking enough to test him. Kohli, Pujara, Rahane, Raina would also be well advised to play overseas domestic competition for a year or two than Ranji. Link to comment
