The pace is up, rhythm looks good, has been consistently hitting good line and length yet the wickets haven't been coming his way. Last 7 tests, he has just 15 wickets at a very high average of 60+. Lack of wickets could become a problem if he doesn't start well in Australia. Dare I say he could even lose his regular spot in the 11 to the new comers on the Aussie tour if wickets do not start coming. So the question is, what are the areas he needs to work on in the next 3-4 weeks before the Boxing day test? One of the things he could work on is the release and his wrist position to get a more consistent straight seam. The other would be to perhaps getting his line closer to off stump. What else? Also, should he play one of the Ranji matches before leaving for Australia?

In Indian conditions, its tough for a bowler like him to get wickets with that length because pitches dont have a lot of bounce. Also it would be better for him to learn how to work a batsman out and develop strategies to get wickets like Zaheer.

bajrang Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 courtny walsh has pointed it out many times in post match show. ishant should try to seam the new ball. right now he just pushes the new ball with wobbly seam. secondly with his action and length lbw is rare. and if there is no bounce in pitch he is sitting duck. i wish he had macgrath sort of upright action.
Vijay.Sharma Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I think Ishant needs 2-3 good, hard full domestic seasons. He has been bowling alright but has nothing to show in the Wickets column. If he plays domestic cricket he will learn about his own bowling and more importantly he will learn a lot about how to pick wickets.
Old guy Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 problem with ishant? he does not really has a consistent wicket taking delivery i will give u example steyn.. quick accurate outswinger its his bread and butter bowl zaheer..always swings the bowl,reverses it always works batsman out knows their weakness and is fairly consistent...i love the way he bowls to strauss u need to watch it :) take any good bowler he has his consistent wicket taking delivery, ishtant normally takes wickets iwth ball bouncing outside off stump getting edge with occasional straight delivery now how many times have u seen him straigten the bowl (outswing) its rare its dead straight coming in with angle batsman can easily cover the line.. his rlease has problem thats why maybe it does not out swings much even this guy aaron who bowled in his first match showed atleast he has wicket taking deliveries irony is people say ishant bowled better in first innings! yadav is perfect example see how many options he has outswing with new ball ,old ball reversing all the time, bouncer,yorkers inswinging to tail enders i think he needs good long country season it will solve everything lol

If you bowl in the right areas, wickets will come
Number Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 In his pitch map , it was showing he has bowled 50% of his deliveries in short+just-short of good length area. He should bowl more in the good-full length region and try to come closer to the stumps. ysKlvbmr1zk This would be the ideal length for him. He should also work on developing an accurate yorker , with that height it can be lethal.
Old guy Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 another thing i noted this guy bowls 4 good deliveries on good legnth and line.. and when pressure is building one slides towards legs and is flicked away easily for runs batsman does not need to take any risk against the good balls its all about his release problem i guess

He needs to develop one stock ball and that can happen only if he plays a lot of cricket at a level that is below Test level so there is no pressure for him to perform and his performance will not affect the team much. He needs to play domestic cricket

That and the fact that he is mentally unstable. Sad but true.
