saneindian Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 Ian Bishop on Ishant Ishant Sharma could pick only five wickets in the Test series. What's stopping him? There's a slight technical issue with Ishant. He's a good bowler but I think that sometimes his left shoulder opens up a touch and falls away too much leaving him with not enough pace behind each delivery. His accuracy is not so bad. I just feel he has to be a touch more upright when he bowls and that will help him utilise the bounce. My only concern with him is purely with the left shoulder dropping. He doesn't always get the wrist behind the ball. He gets over 140 kph, but I guess once he does that he will hit that pace more consistently. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/west-indies-in-india/interviews/Ishant-has-some-technical-issues-says-Ian-Bishop/articleshow/10898508.cms Bishop's insights especially on technical aspects of pace bowling are great to listen to. He pointed out a lacunae in Umesh' foot landing as well and that was after just a couple of overs of test cricket by Umesh. Hope Eric Simmons has taken notes and will work on these areas with the bowlers,. Ishant also has a couple of weeks before departure to Australia to work on his shoulder position, maybe a visit to his childhood coach, who got him back on track after SA would help.

asterix Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Also his bowling follow through has issues and appears to be heavy landing which will take it's toll on his foot.. This is what I mentioned in my earlier post in this topic. Bishop is right about the left shoulder keeping low. One more thing Ish needs to sort out is his Head position when he delivers the ball. If you notice, his head appears to be down (so much so that he appears to be looking down) and relies on his bowling action to pinpoint the pitch of his balls. Could be one of the reasons why he struggles to maitain a tight line... There are obvious technical issues with Ishants bowling and the bowling coach should try to help him out with all these issues. His landing is definitely a problem and he could develope serious foot issues at the later stages of his career..
Dravid_TheWall Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 ah ok but still you can compare bhajji i think but sreesanth is far fetched bhajji did it in pressure sreesanth randomly hit six diff things imo but now i get wht u mean not saying i agreee with it but ur entitled to have ur opinions and views I agree bro, Bhajji more appropriate I guess.
Dravid_TheWall Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I have talked about all this so many times already. No you didn't. You were crying about Ishant's poor seam position and saying that was his problem. I remember because I pointed out that there is an indian fast bowler who has impeccable seam position. I don't really agree with Ian Bishop anyway. He also said VRV was going to be a great bowler after watching him :cantstop: The fact is some bowlers just are not wicket takers at international level. You would expect someone to develop a lot in 4 years but he didn't.

You would expect someone to develop a lot in 4 years but he didn't. Having a prompt seam position and a page 3 persona would not make him a great fast bowler. He really needs to put in the hard yards else he would not be considered for the future. I myself had high hopes from Sree but he has not been able to live upto his talent. As per Ian Bishop, he's one of the reputed commies who has a great insight into fast bowling. Ishant has been constatnly making progress which is so very unlike from the mercurial genius.

If this is progress how bad was he 4 years ago :hysterical:
Sachin=GOD Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 He will be back. If this is progress how bad was he 4 years ago :hysterical: at least he has made progress. Some other bowler (who likes to dance :D) has become worse in the last 2-3 years.
Dravid_TheWall Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 at least he has made progress. Some other bowler (who likes to dance :D) has become worse in the last 2-3 years. He hasn't made progress unless you haven't been watching him :cantstop: He averages almost 60 against all major opposition and has never taken many wickets against good opposition. :((

Dravid_TheWall Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I'd take the words of Ian Bishop over yours :winky: You would just believe someone rather than think with your own mind and analyse? Then you better start praising phasst VRV singh as Ian Bishop loves him too. Until cricinfo will write about Ishant poor performance people like you don't have the skill to analyse. :icflove:

vamos_rafa Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 He will be back. If this is progress how bad was he 4 years ago :hysterical: He is not as cr@ppy as you have been suggesting. He was pretty bad in NZ and SA. He along with PK bowled with no luck in England. Sree was supposedly our most experienced bowler, having played there once and actually doing well. But he was awful there. Now against WI as well, Ishant bowled well with minimal luck. I would still say that Sree is more tailunted than Ishant , infact his seam position is gifted, but that does not make him a better bowler. there are other aspects where Ishant is miles ahead of Sree.

I went to the matches and honestly Ishant was the least impressive. He was just steady with a top speed of 138k which was his stock ball. Didn't threaten. PK was good obviously but Sree bowled trash in spells but awesome in others. Not just seam position though, Sree can run through a side, Ishant can't, he is a supportive bowler. That is what makes Sree a more prized asset in test cricket, he is a wicket taker and can win you matches on his day. Bit like old Mitchell Johnson.
ganeshran Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Sreesanth is the Mitchell Johnson we saw in Sri Lanka and South Africa.

But does not it irritate that words like can do, would do, should do are used more frequenlty for Sree than Sree did this? It's been a real long wait. Ishant didn't threaten? He ran through the English at Lord's second inning. Even at TB, he was pretty good. And inspite of the ruckus, he kept charging in, which was so unlike Sree. He was literally meandering his way to the crease with no effort whatsoever. That's the difference that I am talking about. Yes, I would still not pick Ishant as the leader of my pack but he would always do a very good role as a support seamer to Zak. As of now, Sree can't do both of that.

Sree was injured during eng tour as I stated back then and it is confirmed now. He was a shadow of his former self. Yeah that is true, Ishant can be supportive for Zak but he shouldn't play in the first test v Aus. Our best seamers currently are Zak, PK, Yadav. The one of Ashwin/Ojha depending on who does better in practise matches.

Agree with you but Sree has been given enough chances. He has to impress in domestic cricket before being given another chance. He came to the England tour with a belly.

He came to the England tour with a belly. True it would be good to see him perform in domestic but I feel it is waste of his time and he should be straight back in the team after good injury rehab. When I was next to him, he was very lean and reasonably muscular. Didn't seem like he had a pot belly, tbh most Indians have a little bit there lol. It don't matter as long as match fit, note not gym fit. I rememeber Dada saying that, more time in nets and games than gym :two_thumbs_up:

Not in a single test was be able to replicate his first spell speed in later spells or the second innings. By the time the Oval test happened, Praveen Kumar was bowling faster than phaasht machine, Sreesanth. The difference was that Praveen was still bowling with a lot of control and accuracy while Sreesanth was spraying the ball all over the place at 125 kmph.
