One Day Cricket Should Be Scrapped-Graeme Swann

I don't understand one thing, why one day matches are not organised anymore in Toronto, Canada after it was a big hit in 97 India-Pak series? There are some other places as well like Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Kualalumpur, Ireland and in america as well where it was a big hit. Instead of expanding the game to new places, they are infact shrinking to fewer cricketing hosts. I remember, in 2007 world cup, Ireland showed so much potential and even in 2011 WC as well, Afghanistan also played quality Cricket in ICC tournaments but they are nowhere to be seen again anymore. Instead of playing strong countries, they have gone back to associate cricket world

do we see a birth of a new theory? move aside RPT
Yes and theory is a economics one.... Valuation of a product in open market is different than that of what manufacturer/owner thinks...
:WTF: :hysterical::hysterical:
There is a saying "Ek Chai ke liye mahange hai ( lierally means he is even expensive for a single tea).... If he is really way better than the pack then why wouldnt he generate a frenchise interest.

it's all to do with the fact that poms suck at ODI big time...... If you are not good at something, why not try to get it disposed. I sucked at maths but had to study it compulsorily in school.( just like the poms at odi) but the 1st chance i got to dump the subjet, after 10th, it went right out of the window. BTW, i think it'll be great idea for the poms to suspend themselves from odi ( like zim did from test matches) till they get better at it....

Yeah right ! Just because he is Shyte in ODI ( as well as any format, but just overrated due to home performances ), and his team is shyte in ODI, it should be scrapped ? What a joker ! Instead trying to work hard, compete and beat the others he is opting for the easier way out ! What a loser ! He should be ashamed and must never ever call himself a sportsman at all ! Because a sportsman never says no to a challenge !

That would hold true if IPL interest was solely dependent on the ability of a player. While skill is a component, the primary decider is the marketibility of a player to the audience. While Swann is just an above average bowler in ODIs, to say that because he is not playing in the IPL, he isnt skilled is a fallacious argument.

ODI cricket generates more TV money than T20 and tests combined.So there is no way administrators will want to scrapping. Also just because England are rubbish in ODI doesnt mean we can scrap a format.What next ENgland cant play spin thus ban every spinner?
Are u sure that in todays world...ODI cricket generates moreo money then T20??? Wait for the next ICC TV contract to come up...& U will see that the money will almost double by TV companies...not because of ODI WC...but because of better valuation of T20 WC. Offcourse ODI cricket is still good...& exciting..as see in the recent WC :winky:...but IMO...Swann reaction is due to his team poor performances in ODI. As he himself said though,.....he have no intention to quit it either.

Yes I thought that someone will come with a logic saying that IPL do not fight a relegation battle. But let me tell you something as per my understandings that what is being fed to me by media... 1. Swan is best spinner of current era, Not above average as u claim 2. England are way ahead of rest in tests (90% credit goes to Swan Cook, Tott, Anderson) 3. England are champs in T20 as well as tests on the virtue that they are T20 champs and won against India in India............ Belive me.. despite the economic turbulence.. A banker is still more right than people like us

+1... Very well written argument.....

Ireland will be a very good one day side and so do Afghanistan. Give them some time. Otherwise if they don't play one day cricket anymore, they will keep losing players like Eoin Morgan and Boyd Rankin to England

Mr Swann's big mouth should be scrapped from uttering nonsense. That's one of the reasons ppl all over the world dislike the Englishmen. As soon as they get some sort of relevance as a world class team, each tom d.ck and harry starts blabbering about what he thinks should be the way forward for cricket. Why not shut up and try to improve your odi skills? Concurrently, if sucking at a format allows a team to call for scrapping it, Bangladesh can soon start calling for test cricket to be scrapped lol. Fact: England has not come close to being a world class odi side since their last WC final appearance in 1992. Added to that is the fact that they have yet to win a world odi title. So Swanny has his work cut out ;)

after playing cricket since 1877 they've finally managed to become the no 1 team in the world so their cricketers think they have a right to speak on anything and everything related to cricket even if its as absurd an idea as this one.

Hmm.. Is it only me or does Graeme seem to have this compulsive addiction of either being in the news, or creating it? He's still one of the most entertaining cricketers going around, but he's in danger of being over-exposed here.

Yes he is one of those cricketers who creates news. He and James Anderson were the only two English cricketers who got the invitation to the Indian F1 parties, this year
