One Day Cricket Should Be Scrapped-Graeme Swann

To be fair guys, they he said he wants it scrapped OR CHANGED, and he isnt the first player to say that. Personally Im of the opinion that we should keep ODI cricket BUT reduce it to 40 overs, we did that here in England in the county game and I found it more exciting, the scores were roughly about the same but there was less of the dull middle over play. Here in England people just dont care too much about ODI cricket, we view it as a 2nd class format and its been like that even when we were rubbish at test cricket so it isnt a new thing. I actually think 20/20 should be scrapped internationally and played only as a club vs club format. Also I dont mean to sound rude but England have beaten India in our last 2 series here in England, I know we are poor but the way people on here speak make it sound like we are worse than we are. On a neutral venue I dont think it would be too one sided

I heard Danny Morrison saying in his commentary in Pak vs SL match, that instead of 5 ODIs and 1 T20 series, it should actually be 3 ODIs and 3 T20 match series. I think that is also a good idea

I would have thought the mandatory powerplay before over 40 is aimed at this. There really isn't any point changing it if you're just going to knock ten overs off each innings. A lot of people have gripes about T20 not being a test of skill. Calling for reforms to a 'boring' 50 over ODI game is hypocritical. The world can't have some extremes of only Test matches and masala cricket.

I would make a couple of changes to ODIs - 1) There should be no restrictions on how many overs an individual bowler can bowl. 2) Scrap all power plays, but throughout the innings a maximum of 3 players can field outside the circle, as opposed to a maximum of 5 as things are now (outside of power plays).

Yes, this suggestion was actually discussed in the ICC meetings so many times. Even I think this is a very good suggestion. But, it'd be much better if they allow only 1 bowler can bowl as many over in an innings

If it comes to whether ODI or tests should be scrapped it would rather be tests.Why would a more popular format be scrapped to save test cricket if people arent any more interested in tests.

Swann came out with strong comments earlier this week saying that international cricket should involve Tests and Twenty20 but didn't expect much support for his view. However, as a cricketer who is active in all three formats he insists something has to give and in 2012 is due to spend 250 days in hotel beds. "I do think we play way too much of it and the idea of a seven-match series in India next winter is ridiculous," he told the Daily Mirror. "But I won't hang up my one-day boots because I missed so much cricket for England over the eight years before I got back in that I don't think I'd forgive myself if I started to pick and choose what I played. "That would turn me into the player I don't want to be and the sort of bloke I don't want to be, because I love playing for England so much. I realise I'm incredibly lucky to do what I do and I just have to get on with it. I might not be happy about playing in a seven-match one-day series, but we've got to give the best account of ourselves." Swann admitted there have been times he has not been completely motivated for an international match due the continuous flow of fixtures. "It annoys me that your mind can be in a place where you've got an international game and you're not itching to play in it," he said. Swann is currently on a rare lengthy break from the game since being involved on the one-day tour of India during October. He will return to action to face Pakistan in UAE next month which is the start of another hectic period of international cricket for England. The UAE trip is followed by two Tests in Sri Lanka starting at the end of March and the home season starts in mid-May. I am :winky: but seriously I think 7 match series are too many, 5 maximum, and test matches should be atleast a 3 match series. Look at recent SA vs AUS series, 2 great games but why not more?
