Sources have indicated that the Indian cricket board is looking at a suggestion to send their key Test players early to Australia to prepare well for the tough series. A final word should come once the BCCI bigwigs, who are out of the country, return. If given the go ahead, seven to eight players will leave for Australia on December 8, four days ahead of schedule. They will be based in Melbourne, preparing for the Test series, and leave for Canberra on the 13th to play the two warm-up games. The players who take part in the one-day series against West Indies will be flying out on December 12 from Chennai to Sydney, from where they will proceed to Canberra. The last ODI is in Chennai on December 11. It is likely that even some of the senior players who play all formats of the game, like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni, are rested from the final leg of the ODI series to allow them to leave early. However, there is uncertainty over batting mainstay Rahul Dravid's travel plans. He has retired from one-day cricket but is the recipient of the Polly Umrigar award and may have to delay his departure to attend the BCCI's awards function, to be held in Chennai on December 10. In the original schedule, India were to play only one warm-up game before the four-Test series, but after the debacle in England an extra game was added on former skipper Anil Kumble's suggestion. Before the 2010-11 South Africa tour too, India had reached Cape Town a week in advance to prepare for the Test series, at the insistence of the then coach Gary Kirsten. It paid dividends with India managing their best-ever result there, winning the second Test to share the three-Test series 1-1. The emphasis on preparing well has dawned on those concerned after the humiliating experience in England. BeautifulGame Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 All those in the test squad should ideally be leaving as soon as the current test with vs WI is over and have week for acclimatization before playing 2 proper 4 -day warm ups. But that is expecting the impossible from our board.So hopefully they are send 4 days before warm ups as the report says.It would be ridiculous to ask our players to play in a warm up just a day after landing in Australia

A board official told ESPNcricinfo that Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Ishant Sharma and Pragyan Ojha are likely to be on an early flight, the exact date for which is yet to be decided. They will leave either on December 8 or after the BCCI awards function on December 10. India's first tour game begins on December 15, eleven days prior to the Boxing Day Test. Laxman, one of India's Tests-only players, welcomed the development. "Luckily for us we are going ahead this time, so we will get a lot of time and opportunity to get acclimatised to those conditions," Laxman told ESPNcricinfo. "I firmly believe that how much ever simulation you do in India, it's always important to get to Australia and get used to the conditions. The net practices and training sessions will be very critical for us to get used to the conditions as early as possible. "Personally, because of past experiences, you know if you do certain kind of drills it will help you to get used to the bounce. But it is not the same as actually batting there." Laxman, though, didn't know when exactly he will be flying and who he will be flying with. Unlike India's last tour of Australia, when the team left immediately after completing a Test series against Pakistan, this schedule allows the Tests specialists more flexibility in their preparations. The last time, the BCCI attracted flak for arranging only one warm-up game; this time, India will be playing two warm-up games before they face Australia in the first Test in Melbourne. Lot will depend on our openers and it would have been good for them to go there early and acclimatise.

And maybe Kohli as he wil play in the 1st Test and needs to familiarize himself with Australian conditions. Don't really care about Saha coz if we are in a position to rely on Saha, that means the series is already lost. But to be fair to Saha, it's most probably BCCI being cheap than Saha refusing to go to Aus early. You gotta keep in mind that BCCI will have to pay from their pocket for early acclimitisation and knowing how cheap BCCI is they sent the established players and probably refused to pay for reserve players like Saha.

Hope Indians practice against fast bowlers in the nets this time round rather than facing off against some local spinners and preparing for Lyon :haha:

In a welcome move, the BCCI has decided to send young fast bowler Umesh Yadav along with the Test regulars early to get a feel of the conditions in Australia, ahead of the Test series starting on December 26. It was confirmed to HT that Yadav, with six other players and four support staff, will leave on December 8. The rest of the squad will leave after the last ODI on December 11. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Ishant Sharma, Pragyan Ojha and Wriddhiman Saha are the others who will depart early. The national selectors and the team management felt Yadav "would be better off getting used to Australian conditions rather than playing in two meaningless ODIs against West Indies". Taking into consideration that there would be a lack of net bowlers, the BCCI has also decided to send Raghu, from the National Cricket Academy, who operates the bowling machine. Irfan to return? With Yadav set to leave early, Baroda speedster Irfan Pathan has emerged the front-runner to be named as Praveen Kumar's injury replacement, for both the Australia Tests and the last two ODIs versus West Indies. Irfan, who last played for India more than two years ago, has been in fine form in the Ranji Trophy, picking five-wicket innings hauls in each of Baroda's first three Super League outings.
