daryl1985 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 His form is not a concern because he will never play for India again after this series.
Ultimate_Game Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Uthappa should be given a chance... in the last 2 odis against WI. Uthappa has improved his game quite a lot and just like Jadeja he should be given another opportunity at intl level. We have already seen enough of Parthiv Patel who despite being given numerous chances is not capable of making big scores and generally gets out in 20s and 30s, and on a very good day may manage to reach 50. With Sehwag and Gambhir in the team Uthappa is also a like for like replacement for Dhoni as Uthappa can come in down the order and make full use of end overs. With Parthiv only thing we get is a loss of early wkt.
Mystique_Myth Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 but he's not so good with wicket keeping i guess??.. then how can we consider him as a replacement for the wk spot?
Ultimate_Game Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 but he's not so good with wicket keeping i guess??.. then how can we consider him as a replacement for the wk spot? If Dravid could keep wkts in odis to add depth to the team, and help India reach WC final, I am sure Uthappa can do a similar job as well.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 uthappa is a terrific lower order batsman. he has played some amazing innings for india at number 7. has a calm head and knows how to get the 1 big over at the end of an innings. i dont think he wants to play there anymore. he opens in every format and can only be selected as an opener.

I think he has started opening so that he can prove to selectors that he is a good enough batsman to be considered for the Indian team, and doesn't mean he doesn't want to bat lower down the order. In fact Uthappa has started keeping as well as it will allow him more chances to get in, and I think the Indian selectors have to acknowledge the effort put in by Uthappa and improvement he has shown by giving him a chance. I mean what's the point of selecting Parthiv time and again when we have seen so many times that the guy can't score big even as a top order bat. In fact we can try Uthappa as a top order batsman if the selectors so wish.
Old guy Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 we need rahane on top badly need some solidity uthappa with sehwag on good days we will be 100 in 10 overs but we can also be 10-2 cant afford it really
JeffThommo_fan Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Robin Uthappa doesn't come in the good books of MSD so he won't be selected. So, forget about it.
J P K Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Robin Uthappa doesn't come in the good books of MSD so he won't be selected. So' date=' forget about it.[/quote'] why ? what really happened ?
Ultimate_Game Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Sometimes you have to reward players based on the effort they have put in, initiative they have taken and the improvement they have shown. Jadeja has been one of those players who has clearly worked on his game and looks a much more rounded cricketer, especially with the bat. Patel was supposed to have improved as a batsman and we have given him enough chances and sadly he's not the one who can either score big at the top or get quick runs down the order. Now Uthappa has shown a lot of improvement and has even shown willingness to keep wkts so he deserves a chance as well. I would prefer to see Uthappa over Rahane in the odis as we need a wk batsman at the moment else who do we drop from the team to make way for Rahane? Secondly Rahane is a natural odi player and I would prefer him to establish himself as a Test player else he might go the same way as Murali Vijay. Same with Pujara. Once likes of Rahane and Pujara. Plus, Uthappa is more suited to shorter format than Rahane.
Old guy Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 thats true but rahane unike vijay even in odis never slogs he played normally agaisnt england rahane would be automatic choice in test after laxman or dravid retire but i think we need hi, in odis too he will be very valueable in australian odis cos he is solid and can play short ball easily
the_indian_fan Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 dhoni does not like uthappa as he is a better batsman than him & also a wicket-keeper i hope uthappa gets selected for the last 2 odis & does well so that dhoni can be kicked out from the team

We clearly saw how much Vijay regressed and we have to be very careful how we manage Rahane. Uthappa has done well in shorter formats so let him get his shot first and Rahane should get in Tests pretty soon as his performances in FC show.

I am not implying Vijay's regression is Rahane's fault, but we have to learn from our mistakes else we will keep on repeating the mistakes. I mean if we had paid any attention and emphasis on how we lost so many fast bowlers after a promising start (Irfan, RP, VRV Singh, Munaf etc.), we wouldn't be in a position we are in now and trying to figure out whom to send in as a replacement for PK. We need to do the same with our young batsmen as well and can't afford to lose any talented player. If we have seen a player regressing due to over-exposure to shorter formats, logic dictates that we address the issue with other youngsters in the future.
Cricket Tragic Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Probably a blot on the IPL copybook that it has not helped bring through a top-order cowlasher who can catch. We are stuck with the likes of Pappu. :cantstop:

BeautifulGame Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 If Uthappa wants to be considered as WK batsman for ODIs he should keep wickets for karnataka in Ranji Trophy ODIs and Challenger trophy.Unless i am mistaken he played as a pure batsman in both these tournaments. With 2 new balls in ODIs we need openers in ODIs who has solid technique.Rahane would be perfect for that when Sachin retires. We should be giving as many opportunities to Rahane not makeshift wk openers or incompetent batsmen like Parthiv.
