Is West Indies team that bad?

I have been following India - W.Indies series closely and i am very pleased with WI team performance. It seems to be a team which is on a rise. Since there are very few intl cricket teams, it's imperative that WI team pick up so that we will have good entertainment in hand. I have read few article off late mentioning that cricket is dying in WI and this series proved that it is not that bad as it was projected. Agree that it is no where close to what it used to be prior 90's but not as bad as bnagldesh or zimbabwe to rule out completely. Test matches were much closer than final result suggest 2 - 0. As a matter of fact, WI was leading in the first 2 tests before they lost it and final test was one of the fantastic test matches i have seen off late. Test bowling (taking sammy out of the team) is pretty good. Kemar roach, fidel and ravi form a decent pace attack and they have good leg spinner. Batting is a huge concern. If gayle and sarwan can be brought back, they can challenge most of the teams....

they have some good talent. kirk edwards and darren bravo are good batsmen. barath is a classy opener who will get better with age. chanderpaul will still be around. that's a good batting lineup. andre russell can be a good all rounder for them. nice bowling action and a very clean striker the bowling is where they lack quality. rampaul is good, but fidel is awful and roach has pace but no control. bishoo is alright, and i like the other spinner they debuted in ahmedabad. on paper, they are in the same league as pakistan and new zealand. average team capable of the occasional above average (fluke) performance. new zealand have some quality young talent as well. both these teams could overtake pakistan in the next year or two.

At this point of time, they are on par with sri-lanka and NZ....it will be a interesting cricket between these teams.

W I is a improving side , better at ODI'S , then test , hampered by selections, Gayle, Sarwan ,Jerome Taylor , not in the squad,have some talent , Bravo, Barath, some spinners,faster bowlers, I am not sure Sammy deserves a spot in the test side , also team has potential , seems to be playing as a unit.

no they have some good bowlers and some very good talents coming up and for first time maybe in a decade they are playing like a team so things looking up for them but still they have to learn a lot occasional win is nice but they need to win more consistently batting needs to click as one in each match u will see one players scores big others fail just little things but i think they will only improve :)

What I have liked about this series is that the 'Spirit of Cricket' has been more or less upheld. Credit to Sammy for that, and despite being underdogs they have hardly done anything irresponsible or unsporting to flair things up. Cricket looks like a better game this way.

I think WI create chances but just dont do enough to capitalise on them. Its a mental thing than talent

They have always played well within the rules and very rarely have we seen them behave like a pack of dogs :winky:

++ True, they have always been like that. Even that invincible pack of 80s were ruthless in the business but sporting all the times, even though they had everything (success) to lose it a bit now and then.

Any team playing against India is made to look like a good enough team when playing against India... we have never been known as a minnow basher and have usually struggled to put up strong and dominating performances against the lesser sides e.g. all WC matches against non-test teams except against some team in 2007 when we scored > 400 Let us not make them out to be too good... i guess this west indies teams real test will be against Australia at home next year.... and if they can perform some good performances there then we can rest assure the Windies team is heading in the right direction

Its the same team they are playing barring Gayle.... and K Edwards is fit they just keep him away from ODIs cause they think he is more suited to tests... plus your list has 12 players

well done to your logic, two teams who haven't won a test series for an eternity will overtake pakistan in a year:two_thumbs_up:, russell is just another pollard, bravo and edwards are just following in the footsteps of the likes of jesse ryder, average batsman filling their boots with runs playing in india. west indies have a long way to go to even go past sri lanka, even in odis if the WC is to taken as some kind pointer. and new zealand's test side is just a walking dead XI, maybe in odis they will be their and abouts west indies and new zealand also struggle financially, where money plays a bigger role in them sustaining quality players than the countries with more money or larger pool of players to pick from.

Yes very bad but just that every time a Bad team plays against India they start to look much better .

I agree with the 'bad' side on this one. West Indies is a pathetic team. At the moment even a team like pakistan would give us a run for our money in odi's with all our injuries and 2nd-3rd string bowling attacks, etc. so I wouldn't look too much into their performance in the ongoing series. Windies have shown NO signs of improvement over the past 5 years and that too when they have played NO pressure games.

WI have a better bowling line up than a lot of countries. Batting needs some work but they are moving in the right direction.
